"--The following transcript was a live chat roleplay--"
Doc: If he hurried he could just make it to the before it closed. He knew he could use an ATM if push came to shove, but Doc liked making eye contact with the tellers. He wanted to be seen as a businessman, in the city. It could pay off in the future. It was the little things like this, that was overlooked by most of the younger business people. They were into the hands off approach, doing things online, with minimal muss and fuss; whereas he realized that subtle things like ‘who you know’ could be a lifeline when you least expect it.

Doc: Doc slid into the bank with ten minutes to spare. He moved to wait patiently in line. The auburn haired female that was in line in front of him, looked remarkably like the ball and chain. His hand itched to move toward the gun in his shoulder holster. However, last time he obeyed that itch, he had sired yet another paladin. And this was bank. Guns and banks. No. He knew she was back, but it was probably not her. He half turned to look at the exit. Maybe he should just leave now.

Cytherea: Cytherea was idly listening to the chipper talk from her enamoured thrall, honestly, her enthusiastic chit chat was drilling into Cytherea’s brain like a herd of enraged bulls. A few nods and hm’s were all she offered as they waited, her gaze roaming over her phone. She was calculating, planning how much money she would need for certain things. Patience was a virtue in banks. Then a gasp of fright tore from the female beside her, causing Cytherea to switch to protective mode, her head snapping up as she readied herself for something. What she was met with caused her to step back. Him. The one person she’d tried to avoid. Of all the banks in all the city, here he stood. Cytherea shot a look to the woman beside her, ‘’Go.’’ was all she muttered, not bothered about the lack of reply as the woman fled. Cytherea had told her how humans disappeared around Doc, it didn’t surprise her that she was scared witless. Offering an almost sarcastic smile, she turned back to the line. ‘’Doctor.''

Doc: Having heard the gasp, Doc’s gaze was taken away from the bank exit to the source of the gasp, and the face of his.. wife. Great. No escape now. He didn’t miss the derisive smile and the almost biting tone to her voice as she uttered the single word to him. He returned her regard easier than he expected. He even canted his head slightly to the side, a habit or ‘tell’ he tended to do when he was bored. He had expected to feel some sort of residual anger. After all, he now had a new childe, merely because she was unfortunate enough to resemble his wife from the back. Bringing his thoughts back to the present, he nodded politely to Cytherea. He made no attempt to speak. It would only digress into an angry brawl. So the nod, and only the nod was the only reply she would get.

Cytherea: Each little mechanism in her head was ticking, turning, the pit of her stomach a battleground for her emotions; anger, adrenaline, perhaps even a little bit of longing. The latter was quashed beneath the rage of her anger. Here stood the man who single handled drove her to leave, his harsh, cruel and completely self absorbed treatment had given her a crash course back to reality that she’d not been prepared for. Suddenly, her wickedness rose. It was her turn, the lady greeting her with a smile. And Cytherea did not disappoint, a flash of gleaming white as her lips parted in a beautiful smile, she turned then, looping her arm through Doc’s, using her inhuman strength to tug him forward. ‘’Hello there, my husband and I are just here to deposit some money into our joint bank account.’’ she spoke, the words like running honey. Though Doc would see the glint in her eyes, meant just for him. He liked composing himself in public, this would grind him all the wrong ways. Lets see if that composure would crack.

Doc: Doc smiled at the teller and then looked at Cytherea, “Are you sure, Darling?” The words said softly, those that knew him, recognized the warning signs. “I was under the impression you wanted your own account, a personal one for.. your shoes, and knick knacks.” He gave her a smile that looked completely guileless. He looked back at the teller smiling apologetically at her, along with a slight shrug, as though to say, ‘Who can tell the inner workings of a woman’s mind?’ Turning once more to Cytherea, he clasped his hands in front of him as he waited, oh so patiently for her to decide.

Cytherea: It was a game of chicken, just like their fake marriage. Cytherea had learned over the past year a many great deal of things, Doc would learn this soon enough. As he spoke, she softened her features, her rose tinted lips turning slightly, mirroring the kindest smile she could muster. ‘’I forgot how thoughtful you could be,’’ she said then, those depths of amber liquid staring him dead on, the fire that flamed in the speckled orbs never once missed. Without so much as a warning, Cytherea clasped her hand behind his head, slim fingers combing through his long locks, holding tightly, before she forced him forward, pressing her lips to his in a punishing kiss, there was no love, no warmth. To the outside world, it looked to be a loving wife kissing her husband for his thoughtful words. But Doc would know much better. This was spiteful. He’d introduced her to games, so he should be thrilled at how far she was willing to take these things.

Doc: If the wench thought he was going to pull away, or cause a scene because she kissed him, she had another thing coming. Unclasping his hands, Doc allowed her very deliberate kiss to lengthen. Just as he felt her begin to pull away, his hand snaked around her waist, the other locked on the back of her head, looking as though he were cradling it. This time however, he drove ‘the kiss’, he returned her kiss with one of punishing thoroughness and deepness. When they finally pulled from each other, he slowly wiped his lips with his middle finger, as though savoring it again in his mind. The look he gave the teller was devilish, “Oh yes.. I think she deserves her own private account for that..Don’t you?” Arrogantly he reached into his inside jacket pocket. “Let’s start with 20,000, shall we?”

Cytherea: The little hellcat of a woman would not be deterred, nor would she be pushed into submissiveness by this male. A performance worthy of an award, she made sure each little act in that kiss was returned with as much fire as she could muster, and there was a lot. When he had pulled away, Cytherea allowed her gaze to sweep over his face, he hadn’t changed, she concluded. Perhaps colder than before. Though with Doc, could you ever tell? A man incapable of showing a shred of emotion from the loving spectrum of feelings. He’d shared a lot, though, perhaps just stories. He’d once told her to be careful of men with sob stories. Tearing herself from those memories, her eyes followed the movement of Doc and the female. ‘’How generous. Indeed, to start with.’’ she spoke, her gaze shooting to Doc. ‘’My loving husband, so very thoughtful and caring of those around him. Not a selfish bone in your body, is there?’’ The female behind the counter sighed wistfully, saying something about wishing how she could find a love like theirs. ‘’Mmm. I think I’ll go get myself some new shoes now. Thank you darling.’’ with that, she tore her arms from his, heading for the exit.

Doc: Doc wasted no time, Cytherea was barely out of his arms as he looked the teller up and down and said with a smile, “I’m Charles.. and you are?” He lifted an eyebrow in honest inquiry. He was rather surprised at the amusement he felt. Had someone told him he would have felt like this, after a run in with the ball and chain, he would have openly scoffed at them. But he was pleasantly wrong. The money he transferred to her, meant little. He considered it alimony. Finishing his business with teller, he leaned forward, and pressed a large denomination bill into her hand, and said softly, “Buy yourself something nice..” He winked at her and made his way out of the bank.

Cytherea: Cytherea stood outside, the air whispering through her long mass of curled hair, the cool breeze a welcomed distraction. Though she had been gone a year, she couldn’t destroy those feelings that still kept her tethered to the male. A male who cared about her as he did the shirts he wore. A male who had been more than glad that she’d left. A man whose words meant little. Two slim fingers lifted to pinch the bridge of her delicate nose. How she wished she’d gone for her first instinct, instead of her plan of kissing him. Though she heard his footsteps, and she could hear the glee in his steps, the smile apparent on his face. The joy. The sick ********. She waited, just for the right moment, when his guard was down, opening that door. And she turned then, her fist connecting right with that masculine nose, the force would knock him back into the building. Hopefully back to hell at that, right where he belonged.

Doc: Instinct kicked in as her blade came arcing toward him. He was able to avoid the blade connecting with him, though his jacket wasn’t quite so lucky. He sighed in disappointment. “I liked this suit..” said mostly to himself, as he looked at the now ruined jacket. Lifting his head, he looked at her briefly. Her eyes were glittering with barely repressed anger. She looked as though she could cheerfully rend him from end to end. He looked as though he might say something, but instead he smirked crookedly, staying mute. He barely repressed the urge to wink at her. She was rather adorable when she was enraged. However, he knew if he did that, she was launch into him again. It was a busy Friday evening, the last thing she needed was to have someone report her for attacking him.

Cytherea: The muscle concealed in her mouth swept across the edge of her mouth, soothing the parched morsels that protected it. His reaction was predictable. Orbs of searing hate veered to the street around them; there stood a respectable looking man, and a petite female, holding a long blade. Indeed she looked like the name he’d gifted her with. ‘’Pity, I was aiming for your face.’’ she said casually. Stop, she spoke to herself. Think. This is what he wanted. This he could handle, anger. Infant, he enjoyed it. What would he despise? What would confuse him. And then she spoke. ‘’Oh, I have missed you. And these little interludes we have.’’ sheathing that dangerous piece of metal, Cytherea closed the distance between then, her fragile hand finding his much larger one, interlocking their fingers. ‘’Shall we head home? You can fill me on what has occupied you, over some tea?’’ she peered up at Doc then, her eyes shining with sheer love and devotion, like they once had before. To him, it would look like she had split personalities. But she’d just learned how to control herself a lot better. To act. ‘’I maybe not have been around to keep you in line before, but I’m back sweetie.’’ she said it like a promise.

Doc: Doc blinked. That was a quick change. He didn’t believe her for a ******* second. He had seen the hate. And he still remembered about her and Pratt. Even if she were being honest, which he doubted, she chose Pratt over him, he wasn’t going to make that mistake again. But he might just act like he would. He lifted a hand, and caressed her cheek with the back of his forefinger. “You know I can’t ******* drink tea..” His tone held that irked tone, born from everyone else drinking, but not him. He looked at her as though he wanted to believe her, he wanted to trust her, “I wish..” He stopped. “Sorry … I can’t,” He looked genuinely apologetic for about two seconds, before it vanished completely. She might question whether she really saw or imagine it. Doc looked at his watch and winked at her, “Got a date tonight, and since you ruined my suit, I now have to go change.” A pause, “But good to see you. Tell Pratt, I said, ‘eat **** and die..’”

Cytherea: Convincing, and utterly conniving. Not one single thing had changed about him. Those brief pauses and displays obviously planted, fake. Though.. perhaps, maybe, he did care? And there it was. That which she had sought so desperately to destroy. Naivety had put her in this mess. Believing people had one shred of goodness in them. Pratt and Doc had made sure she’d wore it down, a battle which had internally tore her to pieces. She listened whilst he spoke, one brow perking as her badgered on. Oh look, still a little spiteful ****. When he made to go, obviously for this date, Cytherea grabbed the back of his collar, dragging him back. ‘’Ah ah, hold on one second buddy. You see, that maybe have been all fine and dandy whilst I was gone, but guess what. I’m not and see this,’’ she held up her hand and showed the ring that remained there. ‘’That means you and I, are married. And whilst you might not know the meaning of fidelity, I do. A shame you couldn’t keep it in your pants though.’’ linking her arm through his, anchoring herself to his side, she wasn’t going anywhere. ‘’So, shall we?’’ he wasn’t getting out of this that easy. ‘’As for Pratt, I think that’s better for somewhere more.... private.’’

Doc: “You know the meaning of fidelity? How exactly does ******* Pratt figure into your definition?” He holds up hand, “Oh I got it.. since you were ******* my ‘brother’ its all in the family and perfectly fine then I suppose?” He snorted derisively, as his lips pressed together in annoyance. “And for the record. We aren’t married. We are bound, and it can be undone any time you want. Just trot your little self down to the courthouse and slide the guy a few bucks, say that magic word.. and we’re free.” He disentangled himself from her. “Why the **** do you think I gave you money?”

Cytherea: ‘’Let's get one thing ******* straight, you utterly pathetic fool. Robert Pratt never once laid a hand on me. If summoning equates to having sex, then by god, your list of lovers just grew.’’ now he’d overstepped it, the rage in her eyes almost like an unforgiving storm, narrowing her eyes she stabbed her finger into his chest. ‘’YOU, cheated on me? Remember that? Put me into a ******* coma, then off you went, raped some little human. You got on your hands and knees and you begged me not to leave you, remember that? Darling.’’ the storm was in full swing. ‘’And me, the stupid fool, absolutely idiotic, I did. Forgave you. Stayed with you. Because I’d bound to you, for eternity. And then what. I inspire Pratt ONCE, and holy ****. ‘’You made your choice, I’m leaving you.’’ You bloody hypocrite. Don’t you dare stand there acting like any victim. You did this, not me. Don’t ever accuse me of sleeping with Pratt, just because you are capable of cheating, does not mean I am. I let Pratt play me. His woe filled story about being abandoned, Pi deserting him, his wife. All so he could pinch me from Lan, as revenge. I made one mistake versus your many, your lies. And you have any cheek to stand here accusing me of these lies.’’

Doc: Doc’s jaw was clenched, the tendons in his neck stood out in stark relief. He wanted to snarl back that she was lying. That she had cavorted with Pratt the whole time. But her fury filled tirade made him think, that maybe, just maybe she wasn’t lying. Her tirade was too fast, too strong and too heated for it to be a well thought out lie, to cover her ***. So he had been wrong. “My deepest apologies, if I was wrong.” He couldn’t .. no wouldn’t, give her the opening she wanted. He was going to admit it all before she could throw it in his face. “You are right. I have cheated. Multiple times. You have grounds, multiple grounds. No contest here. I am guilty.”

Cytherea: How on earth Doc had even concluded that Pratt and she would share a bed. She’d been nothing but devoted, almost sickeningly, like a pup around its master’s presence. Fury roared in her ears, her heart, her stomach. Pain soon followed. This was why he’d abandoned her so easily, tossed her aside like she was nothing. Like their entire marriage was nothing. After she’d given him so much. When he’d broken every bit of trust, and sat there begging, almost crying, she’d given in. Why? Why had he even bothered to ask her to stay? It was evident their binding had meant little. ‘’You were wrong,’’ she said sternly, though she reeled back the sharpness form her voice, her tone almost despondent, defeated. ‘’It doesn’t really matter. I can’t fathom why you ever begged me to stay with you. Clearly it and I meant very little to you. Actions speak louder than words after all.’’ Did it hurt to know he had cheated in her absence so openly? Indeed. But had she expected it? Yes. Perhaps a tiny bit of her had expected he’d miss her. Maybe. ‘’I will transfer your money back. I will not break this binding, you can do that. You’re the one that so desperately wanted out, after all.’’

Doc: Oh **** no. He wasn’t going to be the first one to blink. “Keep the money. Break it.. don’t break it. I don’t ******* care. As you have so eloquently pointed out.. I am such a ******* cad that doesn’t care whether it’s broken or not. So what do I gain by breaking it? Not a ******* thing.” He took the binding oath. He would keep it. If she wanted him gone, she could ******* break it. “For the record, why did I ask you to stay? Because I liked you. I saw, you could be better and stronger than Elliot ever gave you credit for. You needed time away from him. All he ever did was tell you what couldn’t do, and you believed him. But it looks like I was right. You’ve grown up. Congratulations. Now, close this chapter of your life and move on with a clear and clean conscience. Meet someone worthy of you.”

Cytherea: Cytherea allowed her gaze to veer off into the distance as he started to talk once more, her mind encouraging her to pay attention, but she would not. He’d apologized, she thought. Shocking, yet admirable. Yes, he’d been so far from the truth. But would it had saved their relationship all that time ago if he had known? Would it have changed anything? A person who wants to leave, will always find a way, or excuse. And Doc couldn’t wait to go. He, the man who had ultimately caused her to flee, a woman who had only ever given him truth, trust and love. Stood by him through thick and thin. And he expected what? This was going to be a clean cut? Oh boy, was he in for a shocker. She zoned back in then, him saying something about Congratulations. She’d not bothered to listen to anything else, and that could almost be pretty evident by the look on her face. Though she did catch the last bit, and then she smiled. A rather odd smile at that. ‘’Oh Doc, sweet, dear Doc. You’re worthy of me! It’s why we bound. So don’t you worry your little cotton socks. I ain't going anywhere. What did you used to call me... ball and chain? Get ready to feel those shackles again.’’ she allowed her hand to caress his cheek then, almost pinching his cheek for good measure.

Doc: Oh yeah. Great. She wanted her pound of flesh. He had been wrong Pratt, but she wasn’t completely without blame. He remembered how she had flung insults at Tytonidae. He remembered how earlier in their relationship she supported his joining Tytonidae, but then the truth came out, she hated Tytonidae, hated everything they stood for. That he had not forgotten. She wanted her pound of flesh for his infidelity, fine. He could play this game. But if she thought he was going to tow the line she drew, she had another thing coming. They might be bound, but they were far from man and wife.

Doc: “You are the Ball and Chain. But I’ve gotten stronger, I can carry that weight with no problem. No problem at all. I don’t know what you have in mind about cohabitation, but that won’t happen, you aren’t welcome at Tytonidae. Not that you would deign to humor me if you were. So as far as that goes, you can run home to Elliot stay with him, and I will keep doing my thing with Tytonidae. We never even need to see each other.”

Cytherea: If he wanted her gone, he would have to sever that bond. And once he did, she’d leave him be. It honestly baffled her why had even stayed tethered to her for this year. A joke? Punishment to her? Who knew with Doc, something always ticked in that twisted mind of his. Exhaling a whistle of air, Cyth’s honey irises twinkled then. So his ego had gotten big, eh? Thought he was all mister tough? True. She’d left and hadn’t trained once. So he had the upper hand in strength now. But that wouldn’t stop her. She’d fight him to the death if she had to. ‘’Threatening me? If so. Lets go. Right here, and now.’’ she wasn’t afraid of Doc, she never had been. ‘’Still with Tyt? That’s admirable, congratulations.’’ she’d admit when she’d first heard of them and what they did, killing innocent people, she’d hated them, and what they stood for. But Lan had painted the unpretty picture. It took a long time for her to fully understand what they did, and the repercussions breaking the law had. And in the end had failed in saving the Crow, now they were all pretty screwed, because of people like her and their ignorant views. ‘’Gosh Doc, first Pratt and now Elliot. Come on now, am I thattttttt bad?’’ her voice held a bit of teasing now. Toying with him.

Doc: “Threatening you?” He frowned and sighed in a ‘skeptical **** no’ manner, “No. I was speaking metaphorically.” He said it succinctly though his voice held a hint of, ‘why the **** do I even bother?’ He heard what she called his faction. Her backhanded insult at him and his faction. His face hardened. He had been willing to play her game for the moment. But the minute she insulted Tytonidae, he was done. They had been there for him, time and again, when she would go off for god knows where for weeks on end. “But if you want to play the put-upon and misunderstood pitiful wife, go for it. I can be the ******** asshole husband that everyone hates.” Her teasing tone, left him cold. So she wasn’t staying at the depot with the family? Well ******* good for her. Maybe she had matured even more than he gave her credit for, he didn’t care where she was staying or with who. She sure as **** wasn’t staying with him. His voice once more became quietly calm, “Are you done yet?” His face was blank, “I am not going to fight you. I am not even going to tell you what to do. Do what you want, when you want. You are your own person.”

Cytherea: Cytherea straightened then, withdrawing slightly. This interaction at first had filled her with delight in inflicting some sort of dampness on his day, but now all that remained within her was a feeling of bitterness. Not at him though, at herself. Yes, he had hurt her, discarded her. But, in his own mind he had suffered. To think your wife could sleep with your brother, your enemy. Someone you loathed beyond words. Whilst she hurt, she knew at some point he had to. Which is why his behaviour was so cold, as if she too were the enemy. Her fingers came to play with the ring nestled on her hand. Such a mess. At least she knew why he’d been so unreasonable. Vibrant orbs found his shoes as she spoke again. ‘’I didn’t want this. Perhaps to make you hurt a little.. a lot. Like I was. Maybe cut you. But before that. I’d always wanted us to stay strong, there for each other. But it went so wrong. I am sorry. For hurting you, for you thinking the worst. Not clarifying back then.’’ it wasn’t a game now. It was easy to hate someone, blame them. But to try and resolve issues, that took more from someone. ‘’If we’re stuck together forever, I’d rather not have this animosity at each turn. So I guess I’m asking, rather to sit and talk. And sort out this once and for all. OR you can just go your way, and I go my way.’’ all that would prove is what she thought, he never held a shred of emotion for her. Rather that she was a possession to him.

Doc: Well ****. Doc rubbed his forehead. Why couldn’t she just stay angry at him? He could deal with her anger. He could deal with her hating him. But that sad, almost helpless tone to her voice nagged at him. Did he really want her hating him for eternity? No. What would it hurt to talk? Except, he couldn’t see her eyes. Was this another ploy? Sucker him in, in order to lay him low? Cut him off at the knees, as it were. He played the options and iterations from those in his mind. Not talking all ended badly for the both of them. Talking it out, only ended badly for him. He had been wrong about Pratt, so he guessed he owed her this one, he would talk. He groaned inwardly though. He hated talking about his feelings. The night suddenly seemed as though it was never going to end. “Alright. We can talk.” He sounded less than thrilled at the prospect of it.

Cytherea: Somehow he made that simple request sound as if she’d asked him to summon the gates of hell and walk into them. Perhaps, she should just leave it be. He seemed quite content in letting her go, to live this existence out not speaking to her. Maybe she should have just stayed gone, he’d have been happy in his ignorant bliss thinking she was some harlot. What had returning achieved? Lan seemed rather pleased, Pi never really seemed happy, but she had welcomed her back. Cytherea’s gaze crept up his body, first over his knees, then his torso, until she met his face. That displeased look very evident. Cyth’s face also reflected her emotions. Her indecisiveness if she should even be here, displeasure too, though for a different reason. ‘’We can talk another night, if you wish.’’ perhaps he’d be thankful for the reprieve.

Doc: Doc would have loved to take that offer and run with it. He wanted to tell her that he hated talking about himself. He dealt with things so much better by pretending they did not exist. Shoving them down into that deep dark place. Accepting the fact he would always be found wanting. Looking at her face, he realized that he had become the one thing he swore he wouldn’t. He had turned into his father. He turned into a hateful arrogant ******** that hurt his wife. Running away from things that make him uncomfortable wasn’t going to help things. And running away was precisely what his father would have done. He had to do the one thing his father would never do. “We can talk now, or later. It’s up to you. I’ve told you, you are your own person. You make the decision when we talk, and I will abide by it. I said we can talk and I mean it.”

Cytherea: Maybe she could say they would talk tomorrow, and in-fact she could just leave the city again. What difference would it really make? Though the thought was tempting, drawing on her raw emotions, she knew that running away would only breed further problems. Heaving a sigh, Cytherea brushed her frail hand over a slim face, her freckled features looking thinner than they once had. That same hand found it’s way into the mane of curled tresses atop her head, shaking the mass, a nervous habit she had. Although talking now would probably be the better idea, she figured when they both had clear heads would be best, so she kept her gaze on his. ‘’Perhaps tomorrow? I’m getting rather fatigued,’’ she admitted, needing the comfort of a bed. Emotionally she was drained, physically wasn’t any better.

Doc: “If that is what you wish. Then that is what we will do.” She did look tired, drained as she said. Doc felt that protective urge rising. He forced it down. “We can meet at my office.. or some where else of your choosing.” He reached into a pocket and withdrew a business card. He didn’t know if she still had his number or not. And he wasn’t being rude by offering it to her. He was giving her the power to decide when and where and just let him know. He held it out to her. His face was passive, his tone less frustrated. “My number.”

Cytherea: Cytherea had felt triumphant at one point during the night, now she just felt utterly defeated. Though she knew not if Doc would take joy out of this realization, she just couldn’t muster any more emotions to care if he did. For a female who had spent the last year feeling next to nothing, this was like an avalanche on her unsuspecting body and mind. The urge to suddenly just start crying swept over her, but the months of brutal training had taught her to restrain her outbursts. Words were a struggle right now as she feared her voice would probably be the final stake in her coffin. That small hand took the card he offered, her face rather blank now. With her remaining strength she managed to offer a reply. ‘’I still had it, but.. thank you. I’ll text you to see when is convenient.’’ she replied meekly. She’d wait until he left before she departed.

Doc: Her words had a tone of finality to them. He nodded. She was dismissing him. Duly noted. “I will wait for your call.” He nodded briefly, then turned on his heel and headed for the transit. **** him, he dealt with anger so much better. Now all he felt was confliction.

"--The following transcript was a live chat roleplay--"
Cytherea: Though she had told Doc she would be resting, Cytherea had barely managed a slither of sleep. Instead her thoughts had mauled over each word they'd shared, each jab, and then the end conclusion. The petite female hadn't felt this unsettled in a long time, not since the day she had just left, without a word to anyone. A barrage of emotions had soared through her veins directly to the organ in her chest, pulling on each little string. In the end she'd been unable to shake anything, or even clear her mind. How had things become so jaded? Cytherea stood then, pacing the hotel room she currently occupied. She didn't want to stay at the depot, or even Lan's. It was too soon to slip back into that role. With a solemn sigh, she picked her phone up, texting the male who was the source of her current predicament. ''I'm ready to talk, when you want to pop by.'' she put the hotel name and number in the text too. She then texted her thrall, ordering a large coffee. She'd need it.

Doc: Doc received her text, as he was talking to Ari. He had intended to spend the night with Mortll but after seeing Cytherea, he knew he couldn’t do that. Not when he promised to talk. To him that meant he put things on hold. All things. He glanced at Ari who was now back engaged with her computer. He texted his reply, *text* Give me thirty minutes.

He sent the text. The thirty minutes he needed? To talk himself into the right state of mind. He had been up since he had seen her. He had tried to sleep, he couldn’t. Thoughts of Mortll, then Cytherea kept entering his head. No matter how things went, it was going to go bad. Either Mortll was going to hate him, or Cytherea was.

Cytherea: Thirty minutes. It sparked curiosity, what was he doing? With whom? And was he stalling? She forced herself to stop then, to think logically and not a jealous wife. He could be in a meeting with Ty, heck, he could even be on the other side of town and need time to get here. It was always strange how one’s thoughts jumped to the negative. A simple reply was given. ''Take your time.'' It was meant to be a sort of olive branch, not intended to antagonise. If this was to go well, or at least civilly, she needed to make him feel at ease. With the spare time, Cytherea sauntered to the bathroom, allowing her gaze to fall upon her reflection. Though they didn't need sleep, it helped. She looked.. sickly pale then, her cheeks rather gaunt. It could be that she never fed from humans. Perhaps it was affecting her. Nothing a little concealer and blusher couldn't help but conceal. Her hair would remain in it's unruly mass. There was never much she could do with it anyways. The door opened then, and she knew it to be the other female. She'd dismiss her for the night. Letting her go to do as she pleased.

Doc: Doc headed to the hut that he had called home for the last year.. to year and a half. He changed out of his customary suit and changed into a pair of black jeans and black Ramones tee shirt. He purposely chose not to carry a weapon. He would not raise a weapon against her. He said as much last night.. tonight would be no different. Talk. That was what he was going to do. Even if it felt like it was killing him, he was going to talk. And he was going to be honest. He knew this would be where things went upside down. But she had been right. They needed to clear the air. See where they stood. And maybe .. they could at least be cordial to one another from now on? Who the **** was he kidding. When she heard the truth, she would be gone. Gone and she would tell her precious Elliot all.. He counted. Time to get this **** over with. He headed out of the hut, the only thing he took with him, was his tome. No weapon. No cell phone. Nothing to distract him from their ‘talk’. He reached her door with two minutes to spare. But he waited until exactly thirty minutes, then he knocked at her door.

Cytherea: Cytherea deemed her appearance presentable. Perhaps. Though she still looked frail, Doc knew she could pack a punch when she wanted. It was one of those things that had shocked him initially. A pretty red dress hugged her petite form, stopping just above her knees, it had sleeves, and if someone had been well endowed with breasts, some cleavage. But the female was too thin for that nonsense. Red had always been a colour she was enamoured with, perhaps it's why she enjoyed the sight of blood. Her gaze swept out of the city, as she waited. Pondering how dreadfully bad this meeting would go. When his knuckles graced the mahogany with that knock, she felt her heart sinking with dread. But she made her way to the door, coffee in hand. Opening the door, she offered a smile, small, but still pleasant. ''Hi.. come in.''

Doc: Doc stepped in and stayed just inside the door of her room. He wasn’t going to make himself at home. This was her home. Her turf. He would respect it. He shoved his hands into the front pockets of his jeans. He waited for her to dictate where he should go. He was sure she had every move already choreographed her mind, where he should sit to give her the advantage. He figured this, because that is what he would have done. And if there was one thing he noticed about her, apart from how adorable she looked when she was angry, it was that she -had- learned how to play the game. She needed to learn. He wanted her to learn. But he hadn’t wanted to be her foe. He made note of the red dress. Red was considered a power color. Men in business tended to wear a red tie when they were brokering a deal. She either learned that red gave an opponent wariness, or it was a lucky guess. Cytherea would not bank on luck. This was a scripted look. “You look lovely.” She did. The red was a shade that did not clash with her coloring. He waited.

Cytherea: Gently, she closed the door, locking them in that room together. Taking note that he had decided to hover near the door, she tried to calculate his thoughts at that moment. Perhaps, he thought she was planning something, or he was just being polite. Opting to believe the latter, she brushed past him gently, keeping her gaze ahead, trained on the table that had two chairs aligned directly across from each other. The curtains were drawn apart, offering a view of night life. Though that wasn't what her mind lingered on. She'd inhaled his scent, due to the close proximity since he had decided not to leave the doorway. It had unhinged her slightly, her thoughts tumbling over the other, rather clumsily. Inhaling, she composed herself, that smile spreading, allowing her dazzling white veneers to show. ''That's very kind of you, thank you. And you too, look very handsome.'' It was like an alternate reality. Holding out a hand, she gestured for the seat on the left side of the room. ''Please, sit down.''

Doc: Doc nodded politely at her civil response, then he chose the seat closest to him. He didn’t waste time pondering which seat would give him the advantage. He merely took the one opposite of the one she was standing by. Again, he figured this was scripted. She wanted him in this seat, he would take it. He kept telling himself, he was going to do the opposite of what his father would do. His father would have berated Cytherea for wearing a dress to a meeting like this. He would have then berated her for choosing her hotel room. His father would not have complimented her. So far, he was being more than fair. Deep down, he had a feeling he was being played and he would curse himself for allowing it, when he fell for it. He took a breath, held it, and slowly released it as he counted mentally. He would have to make sure he stayed civil and not .. fall for her ploy. She wanted her pound of flesh. It was obvious by how quickly she shifted from one emotion to the next the night prior. “Where would you like to start?” Again his father would have dictated what they discussed and when, he was giving her this choice.

Cytherea: Where would she like to start? It was such a simple request, but it left her floundering. All those times she'd rehearsed what she wanted to say, what should be said, and it fleeted so suddenly out of her mind. It was unnerving, how he could render her useless just by mere presence. It took a few minutes before she could muster and words, before she could even offer a single thought. ''I guess we should start where it all went wrong?'' Though, so many places had fractured their relationship. Their lack of communication, mistrust, misguided calculations on both parts. Cytherea pursed her painted rose lips, before she exhaled, summoning strength and courage. ''I think it would be best if we got things that are still hurting us off our chest.'' Otherwise those little jaded pieces of hurt would make this meeting a mute point. She wished her would go first at least.

Doc: Doc nodded. She wanted him to go first. He would say what bothered him, she would end up with how he was a faithless fornicating cad. She wins. Alright, she wanted him to go first he would. He pressed his lips together and then licked them as he thought how he should proceed. “A fair request. I will go first, if that is alright you?”

Cytherea: Cytherea almost sang with happiness, it was rattling her small form with nerves at the prospect of baring her deepest feelings first. Though she was slightly shocked that he was so willing to go first, she didn't dare question it or oppose. Instead she gave a tip of her head, some silken strands falling forward to cradle her angled face. ''That would be helpful, thank you.''

Doc: Again Doc nodded, he knew he walking into her trap when he saw the poorly hid elation in her eyes. But in for a penny, in for a pound. “I disliked how you left for days or weeks and I never knew where you were. What you were doing, or if you might be hurt. Anything could have been happening and I was ******* clueless and helpless. Then you would wander back into town as if nothing was wrong, and as though I had no rights asking you where you were.” He paused, “I disliked how you lied about your feelings about my faction. It may not have changed my decision, but I would have been more judicious in my actions toward you in regard to them. But you lied to me about it.” A sigh, “I dislike how you used Elliot against me.” He held up hand as though silently and yet politely asking her to allow him to finish before she shredded everything he said. “You may think it was innocent, a childe sire relationship. But you knew very well how he would react, and it would be negative toward me, Well played actually.” He looked her pointedly, leaning forward unconsciously, “I was gutted when I warned you about Pratt, but you ignored me, and helped him regardless. I was wrong about you ******* him,” he inclined his head, “But the fact that you felt you could ignore me..about my admonition in regard to Pratt, was worse to me.” He shrugged. “Your turn.”

Cytherea: Cytherea, although would have liked to interrupt him on a few points, she pushed her responses back down her throat. Nothing he had said was unreasonable or untrue. And in fact, the reflection of her actions made her cringe internally. She openly accused Doc of manipulation and lying, making herself seem like some done upon housewife. But she wasn't any better in this situation than he. He had openly abused her trust, she had done it in a sneaky manner. Which was worse? She could only answer truthfully, her own. His was uncontrolled, her own though. She had planned certain things, others had been accidents. But she could only try to explain. When he had finished she settled her hands in her lap, her gaze turning down towards the table, almost in shame. ''You're right. Nothing you've said is a lie. I used to just leave, but I did it to almost prove you didn't care, to protect myself from falling in love with you, because I didn't think you'd ever really return it. It was almost like a punishment, I guess. Unfair, selfish. I can't deny that. But I was scared. I can't offer any excuses, I can apologise. And admit I was wrong in running away to try and spare myself. Though it didn't really stop anything.'' she trailed off, her orbs lifting now to peer at the darkness spread across the city.

Cytherea: When he spoke of his faction, Cytherea vaguely remembered that altercation. Doc informed her he was joining Ty, she lied to be supportive. One fight later she threw it in his face she hated them. Her lips twisted into a grimace then. Oh boy, she really disliked reliving these memories of her childishness. ''I.. yes. Sorry. That was pretty stupid, I admit. I wanted you to be happy, if I'd told you how I felt, you'd have possibly felt inclined not to join, possibly. You were pretty nice like that. I said some hateful things. Naive and ignorant. All I knew of Ty was painted from a story from Lan. He loathes your faction. Murders without cause. So what if you broke a few rules, it didn't mean you should murder people. I agreed. But. When Pi wanted to join, I learned what they really actually did and stood for. It wasn't for pleasure, or self gain. It was to protect us all. From what is now happening with these rifts, I assume. But ignorant people like myself helped bring us here, whilst you all tried to stop it. I can only offer my sincere apologies. Whilst I still don't believe in murder, I know it's for a good reason and that actions have consequences.'' she was somber then, her gaze finally finding his own. This was difficult. Facing her mistakes.

Cytherea: And then it came to Pratt. Too many fights had been centered around that man. Too many times he'd told her, warned her, and she openly defied him. Ignored him. Decided she knew best. Ha. She'd got played, well and truly good. ''Mm. Pratt. I don't even know where to start with that. I felt sorry for him. I still do, but he's wrought this upon himself. I thought it would be okay. That if I kept him separate from everything, it would work. But that was a wake up call I needed. He only ever wanted me to get back at Lan. To take his childe, isolate me. Almost won too. I lost you, and Lan was about to throw the towel in. He couldn't stand me even looking at Robert. Let alone speaking to him. It wasn't until Pi intervened and revealed what I didn't know. What Pratt was. But by then, it was too late. The damage was done. We were on opposite ends of the spectrum, Lan was furious. So. I fled. Like a coward. But in all honesty. It helped a lot to go. Otherwise, I'd probably be sitting here arguing that you're an idiot.''

Doc: Doc’s eyes narrowed as he listened. Where was the spiteful recriminations aimed at him? Why wasn’t she castigating him? She had apologized, even agreed with him. Was this her way to get back at him? Was this what had planned along? To agree with him and apologize, suckering him back into some sort of … what? Didn’t she realize she had put him through the ringer already? What more did she want from him? The only ******* peace in his life right now was Mortll. Was that the plan? Take her away too? Leave him with ******* nothing? Because she had left.. with nothing? That had been her ******* Choice!

Doc: Doc forced himself to calm down. Maybe this was what she wanted. Him to get upset and angry. So angry he would do something stupid.. and she could tell Elliot and be completely kicked out of the family. He wasn't allowed into the Depot.. but he still had access to the family forum. Maybe that was her goal. To make him leave the family forum too. Leave him with nothing. No girlfriend, no family. He looked at her. He would not allow her to separate him from Tytonidae. No way.

Doc: It took him a moment to gather his thoughts, and force himself to respond with a calmness he did not feel. “Thank you for the apology. Your turn.” His jaw clenched. It was subconscious. He knew what was coming. He deserved what was coming. He stared at her. Willing her to let it loose. Let it fly. He was ready.

Cytherea: Cytherea could see it on his face, distrustful, anger even. It also prickled in the air around them, almost choking her with his sudden explosion of, well, distaste. He wanted anger, he wanted hate. Because those were emotions he could handle, he could trust. This, he clearly struggled with. He veered towards the ugly instead of trying to grasp that she had been wrong. Happy to think the worst. She didn't play on it though, if he wanted to believe that, then she had nothing to say. Nothing she could really offer to deter him from those views. His final words were like a challenge then, encouraging her to slash at him, to prove what he thought she knew. But she remained calm through it all. Silence hugged the room for a small period of time as she thought carefully. Finally, she presented her side of events.

Cytherea: ''I don't hate you Doc. If I did, I certainly wouldn't have reacted in the way I had last night. I'd have been.. indifferent. Seeing you would have done absolutely nothing to me. I would have ignored you, and just carried on with my business. I think you're at times you're a complete narcissistic asshole, who I'd love to stab. Manipulative at times. Control freak. You hate things out of place. I think you almost threw me out of the house once for rearranging it..'' she remembered that, trying to still a laugh. ''But. You're thoughtful, more than I thought you'd be. You are kind. You hide it well, but I got close enough once to see it. You care. You try not to. You try to show all your bad qualities, so people don't want to get close and see your good ones. But I did. And even when you dismissed me so easily and I left, I tried desperately to destroy anything we had by highlighting everything bad about you. Unfortunately for us both, it didn't work. Because I'm sure you would have been happier to ignore me, and think I hate you and despise you.'' she held her hand then, stopping him incase he tried to speak.

Cytherea: 'I had dealt with most of my problems with you before that day,'' that day being the one the split. ''Yes, you cheated. Yes you lied and turned the woman you cheated with. But, you were truly sorry.. I'd have expected a lashing of defiance from you. But instead you begged me to stay. You were really scared. I made the choice to stay. And I forgave you for that incident. I may not like it at all. It may still hurt. But I brought it up last night because you were accusing me of something I had not done. What I struggle to get past, was how easily you tossed me aside at the first hurdle. Yes, Robert was your enemy, still is. But you didn't even bother to ask me. You said, ''You made your choice.'' that was it. And that hurts a lot. I forgave you for your mistakes, listened to you. I let you speak before making up my mind. You just signed it off right away. And no matter what I said, you wouldn't listen. It was like, you'd wanted this out. And it felt sad, that you'd do this, instead of just asking me to go. Asking for a divorce. Which made it easier leaving, because, you didn't care. Even though I thought you had.''

Doc: Doc almost spoke. Her upraised hand forestalled that action. It was a fortuitous save, because he wanted to deny everything she said about him being thoughtful and kind. And he almost jumped into it. He forced himself to calm down. He focused on breathing. He didn’t need to breathe, but he did. The action of consciously breathing in and out, helped him regain his composure and to calm down. He forced himself to visibly relax. He moved his hands under the table top, so he could flex them in line with his breathing. He needed to release the tension he felt. She was too damn close to the truth. That actually scared him. He forced himself to react harshly in most occasions, it was done to keep them safe. If she realized this.. others would too. He needed to focus more.

Doc: When he did speak, it was the truth. It was the truth as he saw it. It might be skewed by his upbringing, but it was the truth as he knew it. “It was easier to cut you off.” He paused. He wasn’t going to explain how his mother had tried to leave his father time and time again, and how his father chained her to him, just to be his whipping boy. Part of him had been angry at his mother for not leaving regardless. The other part of him, saw his father as the evil that was wrong with the world. “If you had stayed, we would have fought more. You would have suffered more. You were better off without me. I am a control freak. I am an asshole. I am manipulative. I am all those things. We were fighting. I would have broken you. I didn’t want that. That was why I wanted you away from Elliot. The time away was good for you. I won’t apologize for that.”

Cytherea: Cytherea's face scrunched then, her freckled nose twitching as a light laugh took over her, a smile lingering after. Doc saying he wouldn't apologise. ''I didn't expect you to apologise.'' she offered, before her fingers began to drum lightly across her arm. She could feel it, sense it, how unhinged this had just made him. His body tension was radiating directly into her cold bones. ''It took me so long to realise it, don't worry. Other people aren't exactly as close as we are. They don't share our bond after all. And I'll keep it a secret.'' Doc's image was everything to him, she'd learned that. ''It hurt so much, for you to act so coldly. My first instinct was to think, you'd lied all that time. Acted. Played me like a fool. But, you couldn't have kept it up that long. I don't know how, but when you were around me, you cracked a little each time. Maybe the ritual helped soften you. Who knows.'' she doubted it had anything to do with her. ''Elliot is.. well... my sire. And I don't hate him. But he is overbearing at times. I can agree with that.'' she cared for Elliot, she wouldn't lie about it.

Cytherea: ''As for that arguing. And breaking me. Do I look broken?'' she countered, right back at him. True, she had been defeated, and hurt. But he hadn't destroyed her as he had thought would happen. ''That year away, I can't say I was happy. I can't say I was sad. I suppressed everything. Then not even into a week back, and I meet you again. And bam. You ply so much from me. It's hilarious. I hadn't felt so angry before, god I wanted to punch your face in. But I wanted to kiss it too. I did do both I think,'' she laughed then. ''Even seeing Lan for a brief hello was just, nothing. It was pleasant I guess. I didn't dare stay at the depot incase you were there. Fear, and respect. It was more your home than mine. I wouldn't invade it. But I dreaded the encounter. Not because I was scared of your reaction, more my own. Whether you like it or not, we are married. And if you don't want that, you need to break it. Don't keep it as some sense of duty.''

Doc: Doc did. Doc hated Elliot. Not because of Pi, he had been jealous, but that had faded and was a non-issue now. But he hated Elliot for his short sightedness. Even Cytherea saw how Elliot’s view and those like him, are in part the reason for the fractures and the departure of Crow. And she had been gone a ******* year and she still saw it. He wanted to tell Cytherea that she wasn’t broken, because he pushed her away before he could break her. He knew what he was like when his buttons were pushed. Dominique pushed his buttons and look what happened to her. If Cytherea didn’t see that, that meant he had protected her better than she understood. The bound between them, Doc couldn’t deny it. It was there. He felt it. That’s why he had told Ari, that Cytherea was his drug. Once an addict, always an addict. Even if they were trying to recover, sooner or later they were going to break down. And he wanted to break down. But no. He wasn’t good for her. But as much as he knew that, he wasn’t going to be the one to break the tie. He told himself he didn’t need it broken. She was the one that needed that, not him. “And Mortll?” that was all he said. Let her take it from there.

Cytherea: Cytherea then looked utterly confused. Mortll? Why was he bringing that name up. She didn't know the woman well, in fact, she'd not really shared a sentence with her. Cytherea had given her a raid key, a few days ago. And then Mortll gave her a guppy fish this morning, perhaps as payment? Who knew. But she replied then, confusion lacing her voice. ''I don't really know her? I mean, she gave me a guppy fish this morning, which was pretty sweet of her. I said thanks, in her mind. But..'' she just didn't understand how that even fitted in to anything. One moment they were talking about them, then he dropped that. Rose tinted lips pursed into a thoughtful line.

Doc: Doc gave her an even look. “She’s my girl friend. I like her. I trust her.” It was the truth. The truth hurts.

Cytherea: Cytherea's mouth opened, and then it closed. Well then. That she had not expected. A sudden feeling took root in her stomach, jealously? Oh great. Then something dawned on her. And her mouth tightened into a hard smile. ''That *****. I get it now.. because I'm a guppy.'' A fool. Stupid fish. Silence stretched for minutes, before she burst out laughing. One hand cupping her face. That was, priceless. Concealing herself, a smile littered her face still. ''I'll be sure to send it back.. but you were saying? What about Mortll? That's not my decision. That's all yours.'' she held her hands up then, as if to prove a point. ''Whether you stay with her or not, you're still my husband until you divorce me. If she's what you want. Then I'm not suddenly going to call you a ****. I left.'' and she had. Though she hadn't sought another, she didn't really blame him.

Doc: “That is the point Cytherea. I already told you. I don’t need a divorce.” He gave her a look. “I am not going to go get one. Are you going to be alright that?” Honestly he didn’t know if he could do it himself. Keep a wife and a girlfriend. Even if he was monogamous to Mortll his thoughts would be split. Looks like he was about to be celibate. He needed to talk with Mortll.

Cytherea: It didn't really make sense to her. He didn't want her, but he didn't want a divorce, but he wanted this other woman.. Cytherea's brain began to hurt. But none the less, she replied honestly. ''I mean, it doesn't fill me with joy that you're with someone else. But it's my own fault for leaving. So I can't really say much on that. Can I?'' she'd have to shut up, and put up. She'd brought this one on herself.

Doc: Doc gave her a wary look. She wasn’t demanding that he give up Mortll. He knew the arrangement he had with Mortll, this was not going to make her happy either. “Not really.” It was an affirmation to her words, but it sounded non-committal at best. He looked about the her hotel room. He almost wanted to say something about her lodgings, but refrained. “Is there anything else you want to tell me?”

Cytherea: She didn't understand his look. As far as she knew, he hadn't admitted anything regarding his feelings for her. He claimed to like another woman in fact, yet, he looked like the one being done hard by. Was he worried she would ruin things. She'd clarify she wouldn't. ''If you're worried I'm going to mess things up with her, I won't. I won't even go near her, if that'll make you ease up.'' she caught that look. Her lips pursing defiantly, she knew what he was thinking, he didn't approve. ''I'm.. looking for a place. It takes time. And.. I guess not.'' she finished.

Doc: He wanted to tell her, that she didn’t have to do anything he said, she was her own person. He had already told her this twice before. He wasn’t going to repeat it again. “I’m not worried about anything.” He wasn’t. It was odd. He spent his whole life pushing down his feelings. But when he had to spill them, it had not been the end of the world he expected. He had expected screaming, crying, recriminations, finger pointing, ultimatums. But he had gotten none of them. Was this part of a really big con, that he was about to fall for? He raked a hand through his hair. “I rebuilt the house. On larch. Cat and Zoey are staying there. Chubchub sometimes comes by. But you can stay there if you want.”

Cytherea: Cytherea recalled the house burning. But something suddenly clicked. ''Did you look after my rabbit.. whilst I was gone, that is.'' she hoped he hadn't let it die. He'd liked it.

Doc: "Carmen has it.. She's got a ******* menagerie. I could call her.. get it back for you."

Cytherea: That would have resulted in a crying woman, but a relieved smile took it's place on her lips. ''Yes please. That things been there for me through a lot.'' she confessed. ''As for the house. That would be.. nice. I've missed Cat. Do you have a spare key?''

Doc: Doc stood up and reached into his jeans pocket and pulled out a keyring. He slid the key off the ring, and held it out to her. "I will call her when I get back. I didn't bring my cell with me." he felt weird retaking the seat. Their business was done. 'So I guess. I will see you round?"

Cytherea: Cytherea stood, taking the offering from him. She felt better, in herself. She'd handled things better than she had thought. But Doc probably didn't trust her as far as he could throw her. Barefooted, she walked towards the door, she wasn't small, but Doc still towered her. ''Indeed. Perhaps like old times,'' she teased, hoping her caught the reference to their play fights. ''Dare say you look stronger though.''

Doc: "Looks can be deceiving." That was true, because he probably looked calm and self assured. But that was far from how he felt. She had matured in her time away. She wasn't so erratic or emotional. It was very attractive. But she needed someone better than himself. Someone that could make her laugh, and not have a myriad of regrets every time she looked at him. Like the regrets she felt when she looked at him now. He could see it in her eyes. "Tell Cat I said hi..."

Cytherea: ''Think I could still take you?'' she asked in an amused tone. For she doubted it. Slacking off had been a mistake. She was sure Doc could easily handle her now. No more severed limbs for him. Something she was certain he would be happy of. Cytherea offered him a smile, ''I'm sure you'll say hi yourself when you pop by, hubby.'' she knew he would. He wouldn't be able to help himself. She pressed a kiss to the apex of his cheek then. It was polite. As if two friends were parting. ''I'll text you about the rabbit.''

Doc: "Doubt it." He needed to get out of there. He needed distance, especially after she kissed him. And a clear head. 'Yes.. text me about the rabbit. But give me a day..to contact Carmen and make a arrangements," He opened the door, looked at her, as though he were going to say something, but then turned away and left.

"--The following transcript was a live chat roleplay--"
Doc: The days had passed pretty much uneventfully. Well uneventful in regard to the Ball and Chain. He and Mortll had talked and come to an agreement. The spawns, apart from Phoenix were silent. And for Doc, no news was good news. Kendall was still an issue, though she was progressing. He would have been happier if she had made more progress than she had, but considering what she had done, and where she was now, any progress was good.

Doc: It had been a week since he and Cytherea had spoken, since then he hadn’t heard from her. Each day that passed, had given him a little more peace than the day before it. Apparently Cytherea was going to be true to her word. She wasn’t going to make trouble. Doc’s wary mood had slowly morphed back into one that, for him would be considered at ease. In fact it was Friday once more, a week to the day since he ran into her at the bank. Even though he needed to go to the bank to make a deposit, he decided to it off. It was date night. He owed Mortll, he wasn’t going to take any chances of running into Cytherea accidentally again.

Cytherea: And with that one encounter things had suddenly caused the females world to tilt on it’s axis, thrusting her back into the world she had so desperately fled. Choking her, almost suffocating her with the reality she had returned. A quiet family, a husband who had a new lover, amidst the ones before that. A sire whom struggled even more now than he had before. And through it all, she’d managed to keep her word. Not once did she stir trouble for him, she didn’t even text him. Though she had wanted to, she’d even wrote the words out. But, she’d stopped. She wasn’t his partner anymore. She didn’t really have any right. Cat had been wonderful, and just the same little devilish creature as before. It was the one thing that truly made her smile, almost feeling like home. Slipping back into old habits, the all master thief had tried her hand at a few building jobs. Failure. She resulted in losing blood and a few bullet holes to her stomach. She’d went to the shop, looking for some blood bags. Alas, a cop had opened fire on her. Then another. It had become one big cluster of misfortune. The now badly wounded woman slipped into the sewers, heading for the outskirts of the city, where less people were sure to occupy the place. Though luck still spun a web of bad luck, as she’d ran into one of those Paladins. The creature had managed to smash her head in, as well as inflicting some other damaged. Luckily she returned fire, ending his life. Now she was barely conscious, her blood all but gone. Summoning her thrall, she ordered her to take them back to Cat’s.

Cytherea: It had not been an easy deed, the straights now roaming with party goers, police monitoring the actives. But her thrall was clever, concealing the mistress' face with a jacket, acting as if they were two drunk students. And with the way Cytherea was staggering, it didn’t raise any suspicions. Finally, the house loomed in the distance, and with little help from the wounded female, Cezanne managed to get her into the house, offering a strange look to Cat. She’d been by before, to help Cytherea move in. Dragging her now to the bedroom, the female let her slump on the floor, clearly not with it. Perhaps it was the head wound. The human didn’t know what to do, she wasn’t a doctor. She stood there, hovering then. Hearing Cat in the background faintly.

Doc: Doc was about to text Mortll and ask her if she wanted to take the boat out for a midnight cruise, when his phone buzzed. He grinned lopsidedly expecting it to be Mortll beating him to the punch. But the text was from Catherine. That feeling of doom and gloom that had slowly lifted, came back with a vengeance. “****.” He had asked Cat to watch Cytherea, see what she was up to, give him a heads up. But within a span of less than ten minutes, Cat had had already blown it, fucked it up. Now she was texting him. He was wary about even looking at it. He debated note even opening it until tomorrow. He set the phone down, and took a shower, in preparation for his date with Mortll.

Doc: All through his shower he focused on Mortll, and by doing so, had effectively put Cat’s text out of his mind. Leaving the shower, he dressed in pair of pressed khakis, and polo shirt. He grabbed a lightweight jacket and shrugged it on. Grabbing his keys and cell he headed for the door, as he was about to call Mortll. The text from Cat stared at him. He clicked it.
*Text* Dad, Cyth is getting blood all over your carpet, I'm not gonna clean it up.
Doc: “****.” Doc sighed. “That carpet is less than a year old.” How much blood could it be, really? The war was on. The struggle to let Cytherea handle her own ****, while he went out on a date.. with someone not his mate, versus him doing the right thing. He was a ******* doctor. That’s all Elliot would need to know, that he let Cytherea bleed while he was getting off with Mortll. ****!

With a clenched jaw he texted Cytherea. *text* Are you hurt?

Cytherea: Nothing was coherent to the woman. It was an odd sensation, it was like her head was underwater, the liquid gushing in her ears, dulling out the sounds. Her vision was shady, blurred, almost like a watercolour painting. She was aware of people in the room, though their words never reached her ears, their faces washed away in the sea of her confusion. This was bad, she concluded. Shock held onto her, bearing the brunt of her pain. Cat’s face came into view a few times, she couldn’t really decipher what that expression was. But when she saw her thrall she could definitely pinpoint that one. Fear. God. She’d have to fix that eventually. Make her forget. Mustering what strength she had, Cytherea spoke. ‘’Go home, Anne. Forget this. Tomorrow you will go about normal duties.’’ and like that, the thrall left, as if it was just normal. Vibrating caused a sudden pain to shoot from her hip to her chest. The wounds hadn’t stopped bleeding. Her head still this unruly mess. Laying there, drenched in blood, Cytherea managed to summon her phone from her jeans. Doc. Great. It hurt to move, but she managed a reply. ‘’Fine.’’ Like hell she’d let him know she’d fucked up.

Cytherea: Although, part of her would have liked his harsh reprimanding, the protectiveness he’d offer. She doubted it would be like it was when he’d helped her before. He’d probably call her stupid, say she ruined some plans he had. Yadda yadda. Using the bed as her rock, she hoisted herself up, crying out occasionally as the ripped flesh was being further abused. Bathroom. That’s where she needed to get to. The sight of her blood didn’t unnerve her. It just made her want revenge. Though that emotion was quickly suppressed. Not now. Now she’d need to try and sellotape herself together. Maybe glue. Did Cat keep that stuff? She almost slipped on the puddle that had been her resting place a few seconds ago. Blood bags. She’d need get some, otherwise she was vulnerable for attack. And a ******* shower, god, every inch of her was ruby.

Doc: He received a one word reply, ‘fine’. Good, he didn’t need to worry. He tossed his keys in the air and caught in vindication. The vindication was short-lived. Why didn’t he believe that text? Mainly because he knew her. She was incredibly verbose when she was happy and healthy. She was monosyllabic when she was angry or, as in this case, most likely hurt. He dialed her number and almost hit send. He growled. No! She said she was ******* fine. She didn’t need him. She didn’t have any trouble asking him for help before, why would she now? She wouldn’t. Not Cytherea. She was good at doing that. Batting those lashes and peering up at him sighing helplessly, “I would really love a cup a coffee…”
Doc raked a hand through his hair, he couldn’t very well ignore this. Cat had texted for a reason. She wouldn’t text over a drop or two. No. Cat was coldly unsympathetic to someone else’s suffering. He was proud of that in her. She didn’t let useless emotions phase her. His hand fisted, ****! Why now? Why tonight? He knew he was going to have to go check on her. He knew it, and he bet Cytherea knew it too. If he got there and she wasn’t ******* dying, someone would be. He ground his teeth together as stalked to his car, drove over to the house.

Doc: At the door, he tried to get in but the door was locked, he pulled his keys only to remember belatedly that he gave Cytherea his key. **** him! He was locked out of his own god damned house. He banged on the front door. A minute ticked by, no answer. **** this ****. It was his house, he used his shadow power of uninvited guest to make access to his own house. Needless to say, his mood was less than cordial by the time he followed the trail of blood to the master bedroom and then into the bathroom.

Cytherea: She was struggling to hold onto the fragments of her mind, the whole had been fractured from that devastating blow the Paladin had inflicted, causing complete disarray among her thoughts. Memories seemed like current events playing before her, stories that were trying to seduce her to relive them, as if that would fuel their lifespan. A shake helped, briefly, but not for long. Her ruby tainted hands lifted, holding her head as she tried her hardest to command some control. Though it was like trying to hold the water slipping from a waterfall. Pointless. Doc managed to slither his way to her. Unfolding each little moment they shared. Those hands fell to the sink, gripping tightly, like that would cease this unforgiving assault. She couldn’t fathom what was reality now, and what was painted. Honey speckled orbs found the mirror then. And a ghastly sight was revealed. She looked as if she’d murdered an entire family and then took it upon herself to bath in their blood. Though her clothes were ripped where blade and bullets and met the fabric and flesh. It was startling, and rattled her.

Cytherea: Doc was there, at least, phantom Doc, telling her how she needed to be more careful, almost comforting her. Though was that her own projections, or had he actually said that to her? The shower turned on, what she assumed had been his action, but in reality had been her own. The water held no warmth, as he told her to wash away the blood, that she looked like a psycho. ‘’I’m not..’’, she replied, her lips trembling then. But none the less she walked under the water, clothes and all, and she sat down, listening to Doc. Trying to understand what he was rambling on about. Pratt. Dissection. She needed to be more responsible. Grow up. Strands of wet hair stuck to her face, the wound that had caused her seemingly mental break down all too evident. She looked fragile then, like a wounded puppy. Harmless. But Doc knew better. He’d suffered her wrath. Though there was no hostility in her demeanour now. She listened some more, before asking, ‘’Don’t you love me?’’

Doc: Hurt, did not even close to describing the vision of mutilation that wobbled before him before collapsing, clothes and all in a heap in the floor of the shower. There did not seem to be an appendage on her body that had not sustained a wound, bullet hole or nasty slice. It looked like she had been through a meat grinder. Dumping his keys and his cell on the counter by the sink, he kicked off his shoes and stepped into the shower with her. He could tell she mostly out of it. She seemed to not have a clue as to what was going on, as he took and cloth and cleaned her face. But then she asked him, that question. That question he hated. That question he avoided at all costs.

Doc: He knew by her blood loss, she wasn’t going to remember anything tomorrow, but he was still wary. He wasn’t about to anything that could be remotely twisted. “I’m not here. You are just imaging things.” He accessed her wounds as the water from the shower rained down on them. He counted three bullet wound areas, a nasty head wound and two sliced appendages. He had never seen her this bad. Was she trying to commit suicide? That derisive thought took root in his mind, as the reality of that possibility stuck in his head. “**** Cyth.. what were you playing at?” His intention to remain mute failed him, as he picked her up and hauled her out of the shower. He carried her to the bed and started to strip off the soggy ruined clothes. He tossed them into a sodden pile through the bathroom door. He collected a few towels and the first aid kit. His first kit was a well stocked kit complete with needles, sutures, and the tools needed for minor surgeries. Even that well stocked, it would be depleted by the time he finished with Cyth.

Cytherea: Silence surrounded her, like the sky putting the the sun to rest, not a sound disturbed the peace. She was shivering, though she knew not why, cold had little effect on her. Perhaps it was a coping mechanism. Feathery lashes descended to rest upon her cheeks stained with the substance that kept her alive, and the drops of water that had managed to cling upon her flesh. Phantom Doc had abandoned her, leaving her to answer her own questions. ‘’Yes I know, yes. But it’s okay. It’s okay.’’ she said then, her voice depicting that her mind was elsewhere. When something brushed against her chin, then to her nose, her eyes flashed open, startled, almost frightened. She hadn’t sensed anyone, hadn’t heard anyone. But she eased back into a state of calm as she realised who it was. Doc. He’d come back. ‘’You didn’t leave me again..’’ it was like she was a child who had lost their parent at the mall. Though he had avoided the question, she waited for him to ramble again. As long as he spoke, she didn’t mind. His voice soothed her. Even if nothing pieced together like it should. ‘’But.. you are here.’’ she shot back, her lips tilting into a frowned pout. Playing games. Silly.

Cytherea: ‘’We don’t have a board, we can’t play any games.’’ she said, referring to his intent to coerce her into thinking he was indeed a figment of her imagination. The sprinkle of water was like a veil of purity, washing away any wickedness she held in her heart, at least for those moments. It was tranquil, serene. His words, like a whisper of wind found solace in her ears as she listened. Playing at? She hadn’t been playing at anything. ‘’I don’t know what you mean..’’ she said truthfully then, looking up at Doc. When she was stolen from her spot on the floor, Cyth gave no words of protest, instead she allowed her head to rest on his shoulder, taking comfort in his aura, his being. Moving wasn’t really an option, as it caused pain to lace each little part of her body. Searing pain. When he performed his task, her mind was suddenly shrouded with dizziness her her shaking as she tried to pass through the sudden obstacle. Though it only caused the rotation of her whole world, she felt as if she were slipping down the rabbit hole, deeper and deeper. Further from Doc. Further from life.

Doc: Doc withdrew a vial of painkiller and and syringe from the kit. With as much blood as she had loss, the shot may take a bit of time to work. He injected straight into her neck. He collected some blood packs out of the mini fridge. Normally he would have warmed them up, but he didn’t have the luxury of time to do that. He didn’t have an iv stand. ****. He would have to get one in the future. He quickly unscrewed the light bulb from the lamp on the bed stand, and then hung the bag on the inside of the lamp shade. The iv needle went easily into her arm, and once it was taped down, Doc squeezed the bag, to force the blood into her system as fast as possible. Once the first bag was drained, he hung a second bag. While the second bag dripped in, he dug out the bullets, packed the wounds and stitched the lacerations. He worked without saying anything. This was business. The job of fixing, stitching, healing her.

Doc: The second bag was then squeezed to speed the process of rehydrating her. A third bag was hung, the process repeated, until a fourth one was needed. As Doc finished hanging the fourth bag, he sat on the edge of the bed, taking the towel he had collected earlier and began to gently dry her. She was going to hurt. Her body had taken too much abuse for it not to. Why did she do it? What was she trying to prove? And how the hell did she make it back here by herself? He tried to dry her hair without moving her too much. Once he was satisfied that he had managed to dry her suitably, he moved her to the dry side of the bed. Doc sighed as he watched her. He couldn’t leave her like this. He went into the living room, got a book and carried it back into the bedroom. Taking a seat in the chair he sat down and start reading, which she rested.

Cytherea: Doc’s face had hovered over her as she slipped, she’d felt him reaching for her, holding her, until her plunged her into complete darkness. Frantic was the only thing that could describe the female. The depths of her mind were being rather unforgiving, frightening. At each turn she felt as though something terrible would suddenly strike. It was a game. One she didn’t want to play. Where had Doc gone? Where was the light? She screamed out for him. Nothing. Again, and again until her throat was raw and throbbing. It was then that movement drew her from her petrified state. A person. Someone familiar. Close by. Turning in circles, she tried to find them, until a light blinded her. There stood Pratt. Robert Pratt. Cytherea felt dread bloom like a newly born rose bud. She took steps back, until a collision happened. A chest. Doc. She didn’t have to see him. She knew. He whispered to her then, words she didn’t know, before he shoved her to the side. This was a battle ground. And here they fought. It didn’t make sense to her. None of it did. It was like a nightmare she just couldn’t shake. Or was this reality? What was real, and what was not. Cytherea’s bruised body was even taking the toll of her inner turmoil, as she struggled to contain her wretched thoughts.

Cytherea: Little sobs were torn from her throat as her face showed her inner dwellings. And there she sat, in her mind, sobbing as they fought. She had cared for Robert. Before learning of his treachery. And here he stood, trying to destroy Doc. And Doc in return seeking the same end. No matter how she tried to intervene, they found ways to clash, blades, words. Internally she understood. She’d felt torn, in the middle of this battle. The victim of a brothers rivalry. But one had intentions of protecting, the other his own needs shone more brightly than her needs. Roberts betrayal had scarred her. Knowing the finale was only to pry her away, to cause harm to Lan, to Pi. To break their little family. As Roberts blade looked ready to pierce, and end Doc, she shot up. Her movement causing her to keel over to the side in pain, a curse ripping from her mouth. Stupid Pratt. She clearly hadn’t dealt with that demon. But betrayal was hard to displace. And she still clearly felt guilty over Doc’s protective nature that she had so kindly shoved to the side. Her mind was a cruel mistress. She was more lucid now, her head not as muddled. But god she hurt, she let out a little cry as she curled into the pillow nearest her. She didn’t once think about how she’d managed to fix herself, or end up on the end, stitched up.

Doc: It was about two hours later that Cytherea moaned in her sleep. Doc glanced at his watch, placed a bookmark in his book and set it aside. Picking up the vial of pain killer, he filled the syringe once more, and gave Cyth another shot. He brushed her hair out of her face. Even in her sleep he could see she was in pain. Her brow was furrowed, her lips curved into a frowning pout. He held the lock of hair for a moment before dropping it as if it burned him. ****! He was playing with fire. Helping her as her doctor was one thing. The only thing that he could allow. He watched the furrows in her brow ease up as the drugs took effect. (cont)

Doc: Doc paced around the room, reigning in his thoughts. She had not called him. He had come, because he knew she be could stubborn, and stupid. She would rather die, than admit she needed him at this point, especially after his admission about Mortll. This was not her call. It was his. Because he knew she was hurt, and he was a doctor. And because he didn’t want Elliot crawling all over his *** about not helping ‘family’. So **** Elliot, that was why he was here. To administer aid and attendance to a hurt family member. Finding himself once more in control of his erratic emotions, he retook his seat, opened his book and tried to read.

Cytherea: Cytherea felt crippled. No matter how she moved, in the most gentle of ways, her body rejected it, screaming at her to stop. But she couldn’t. She didn’t want to stay still, immobilised. Allowing an arm to wrap around her midsection, as if to hold her stomach in place, in case it decided to tip out of it’s home, the wounded female stalked like a feline to her closet. It then crashed into her, like a collision of brass. She hadn’t stripped herself. She hadn’t put the clean bandages around her body. And she hadn’t replenished the blood that had wept from her body. No. But.. no. She’d said she was fine. Why would he? She found something light to place over herself, resisting the urge to cry, swallowing that pain like a hard pill. If only she could swallow the dread that anchored her to the spot. She could feel him. Near. What the hell. Goddammit.. had he be there the whole time? Had he been that ghost haunting her? Or was that a dream? Holy **** cakes, that’s it. She’d kill the cops, then that stupid hunter. The paladin was dead, but she’d find his ******* family and kill them too. No. Composure. This is cool. Doc’s cool. Who was she kidding. He was waiting to say how she’d ruined his night, his carpet, traumatized poor Cat. No windows. ****. She had to pick the room with no escape. No. It’s fine. Adult. Be an adult. Face the music. So she walked then, or rather limped pathetically to where he was.

Doc: Doc had drifted off to sleep, book in hand. He had planned on leaving before dawn, so he would be long gone before she woke. But that had not happened. After the immediate of rush he normally felt in a trauma situation had been burned off, he found the book was far from able to keep his attention as he had hoped, and sleep claimed him. The chair was adequate for reading comfortably, but to sleep in? Not so much. He shifted uncomfortably in his sleep as he tried to adjust his position.

Cytherea: When his visage came into view, Cytherea felt relief wash over her, like a soothing tide seeking to meet the shore. She dared not to move, fearful that his instincts would kick in and he would shoot her. The last thing she needed. Though she could tell by his expression, by his body language, that he was tired. Perhaps enough not to stir. With that conclusion affirmed, she stalked closer to him, as graceful as one could be in her condition. He looked, peaceful. Though, perhaps uncomfortable. She noticed the blanket nearby, perhaps used by Cat. Managing to retrieve it without too much pain or noise, she settled it across him, removing the book in the process. She made her way slowly towards the kitchen then looking at what he had been reading, intending to get a warm cup of something.

Doc: Having taken over and reopened the Winterbrook Insane Asylum, Doc’s reading material had shifted to more educational reading. In this case the The Mental Health Act 1983. To say the reading had been dry was an understatement. It was no wonder that he fell asleep. He shifted once more, but this time, he felt the blanket. He blinked, then straightened in chair. He looked immediately to the bed, she was gone. Well ****. He threw the blanket on the bed and stalked out to the living room. She wasn’t there. He was about to head into the kitchen, but he stopped. What was he doing? He had no say in her life. He kept having to remind himself of that. Regardless that more and more, that urge grew. He turned and headed back into the bedroom. He was taking a shower and leaving. She wanted to kill herself, that was her deal. He patched her up. He did due diligence. What she did from here on out was her call.

Doc: He turned the shower on. It was still splattered with Cytherea’s blood. Normally he would have cleaned it first. Normally. But this was not a normal situation. He just wanted a shower, some fresh clothes and to be out of there. While the shower got to temperature, he went to his wardrobe to get his clothes, but it was full of hers. He sighed. Fine he would just have to re-wear the crumpled damp **** he was in. He stripped and got in the shower.

Cytherea: An attempt to hold back her laugh, was to say the least in vain. A ripple tore through her chest at the action, worth the singing aftermath. Things in this book, could possibly be closely related to her. The temperaments, the outbursts, the lack of control. How intriguing. Though when she studied psychology it was the same. She had such traits of an unhinged person. Doc took the cake and bakery for that though. The kettle gave a sound, alerting her that it was ready to soothe her sore throat from the ache that had took refuge in her larynx. Just as she had finished pouring, she heard the water spreading it’s calming affect once more. How, interesting, she thought inwardly. A steady and slow path was once more made back to the room, her cup and book now settled on her dresser. He was awake now, so she didn’t need to worry about disturbing him. Music helped to calm her, to allow the tension that coiled itself around her body ease away. To relax. So without much though, she pressed play. A song that she’d listened to many times the past few nights came to life, something that reminded her of her situation with Doc. The melody was loud, sure to reach his ears.

"--The following transcript was a live chat roleplay--"
Cytherea: The words were so close to the relationship the two shared, and with each second the music sang to her, the more her confidence grew. She again made a path into the bathroom. And there he was, back to her. He looked tense. Possibly angry. No doubt he would probably play this off as either nothing, she was her own person. Or he’d scream at her for being a daft idiot. There was never really an in between. The noise of the music and shower helped to distract him from her presence, she gathered his clothes, setting a fresh towel on the side. And she left, deciding not to disturb his peace as she once again entered the bedroom. When he needed his clothes she’d tell him they were in his drawers. For now she drank.

Doc: Doc finished his shower, dried and redressed. He didn’t even bother to comb his hair, instead he just raked his hands through it until it was more or less presentable. He was tempted to read his tome, but his car was here. And he wasn’t about to relinquish ownership of that sweet little number. He slid his watch on, grabbed his cell and keys, making for the front door. He hadn’t even noticed that his clothes and a towel had been left by the shower. He just wanted to get out before she caught him.

Cytherea: Cytherea watched, should she just let him go? He clearly seemed to have a fire to his steps. Why though? Her thoughts took that little strand of doubt and ran with it. Perhaps, regret. That he had even come. She hadn’t asked him to. She’d said she was fine, she’d lied. But clearly she’d done the right thing, if this was his reaction. He hadn’t even noticed her in her haste, but she wasn’t going to let him just leave. He deserved a thank you. Then he could go, since the hounds of hell were clearly on his heels. ‘’What’s the hurry?’’ she asked quietly, he’d hear it, even over the music. Her hand had managed to grab his arm, halting his hasty exit. He could shrug it off. He could leave, after she said thank you though. But not until he looked at her.

Doc: Doc had heard the question, but he would lie later and say he hadn’t heard it due to the music. Yes that was what he was going to do, until she grabbed his arm. He stopped and turned, he could still go with the excuse. “You should be lying down.” It was all he could think to say. What to say, what not to say? Stay in physician mode. “Do you feel any pain? I could give you another shot before I leave.”

Doc: Yes it sounded lame even to his ears. How was he supposed to explain that he was trying his damnedest to stay faithful to his girlfriend and she wasn’t helping.. even if she wasn’t doing anything to hinder him? Simple. He didn’t explain it. He wouldn’t go there. Physician, only things that a physician would do or say.

Cytherea: And there it was, Doc’s fear, paralysing him. Causing him to flee. Though, his fear at what, was something she could not decipher, no matter how many times she tried to read him, she could never pinpoint a certain thing for sure. A smile cradled her colourful lips, oh how she wished she could just invade his mind. But that was something she’d swore never to do again. That grip lessened until her hand lay lax against her side. She even took a step back, allowing him his space, and the straight beeline for the door, should he wish to take it. ‘’The previous shot should suffice.’’ she offered in return to his question. Before he left? Didn’t he mean before he ran. ‘’I wanted to thank you. I.. didn’t wish to bother you when you messaged me. But. Thank you. I guess I’d be worse off if you hadn’t shown up. But.. how did you even know to ask?’’ she inquired now. She knew all about him telling Cat to keep an eye on her. Would he lie about it?

Doc: “Cat said you were ruining my carpet. And that she wasn’t cleaning it. Meant two things, one you were hurt, two hurt bad. If Cat wasn’t going to clean it. It meant you were not able to clean it either. Why? You were badly hurt.” He paused, embracing the physician role, “I’m a doctor, you shouldn’t lie to me about your injuries. If you’re worried I will tell Elliot, don’t worry. I won’t. Confidentiality, remember? And you sure you aren’t feeling any pain?” It was the typical follow up question. Ask the same thing, in multiple ways to make sure you get the same answer each time. “How would you describe the pain on a scale of one to ten?”

Cytherea: There was only one way to get Doc to be less stiff and robotic, invade his personal space. That would unravel him a little. So she inched closer, and if he moved, she’d get closer then. Hadn’t they reached a mutual agreement? Agreed to be civil? This was completely offstandish. Like she was just a patient. Not his wife. He was trying desperately to place himself in a role that separated herself from him. ‘’Do I make you.. nervous? Doctor.’’ she made sure to play on the last word, her voice soft then. ‘’A scale of one to ten. I’d say.. perhaps a 7. Though, I’ve endured worse.’’ she said, now having breached his bubble of space. ‘’Elliot?’’ she mumbled, rather close to the other. ‘’Hm. I see. Did you come here for.. Elliot? Let me guess.. you didn’t want him finding out you just left me?’’ like a book, as easy as that, once Doc gave you little fragments. That and they’d been here before. ‘’I’ll pretend you did it because you’re a worried husband.’’ she said it rather teasingly. Lets see how he’d react. Flee. Yep.

Doc: Doc stood his ground, as he canted his head to the side. “Nervous? No.” No she didn’t make him nervous. It was the truth, he wasn’t nervous in the least. He was tempted. That was a completely different feeling. But when she began to taunt him, tease him, thankfully it had the opposite effect on him. This was what he had expected. A game, something to lead him into acting rashly. He relaxed, a slightly derisive smirk slowly causing his lips to curve. “There is no need to lie. I am pretty sure Elliot knows all about my girlfriends. It’s not like I try to keep them secret. Except the one married one.” He looked off into the distance, the smirk softening as he remembered, until he forced himself to the present. He refocused on Cytherea. “That one kept secret. But it’s over now. Enough about me. So unless you need another shot, or stitches looked at, there is no reason for me to stay.. is there?”

Cytherea: Doc was like a coin, you’d never tell where it would land. You could do the same thing twice and you’d get different outcomes. ‘’Then why are you acting like a stick in the mud.’’ she said it honestly. ‘’You couldn’t wait to get out the door fast enough. If I don’t make you nervous, then repulsion? Regret at helping me?’’ she decided for the direct approach then, since invasion wasn’t working. He’d like honesty. Or wouldn’t. He could just lie. She’d eventually hit the truth on the head with one of her assumptions, because god forbid Doc ever reveal how he felt in the exact moment. It was like he couldn’t wait to bring that up, his girlfriends. A defence mechanism perhaps. Predictable Doc. Cytherea placed a smile on her lips, not one of happiness nor of sadness. Just there. ‘’Indeed, I’m sure it was no secret. But I was a secret? I’m honoured. But no, I guess there is nothing else, you can flee now.’’ she had the patience of a saint, but Doc managed to find a way to wear her down. Her hand remained anchored to her stomach, she wouldn’t tell him if she was in pain. She’d rather suffer. He wanted to run, let him.

Doc: “I am Doctor, to offer aid to the wounded is my job. Do I regret that? No. And you weren’t the secret..” Doc scoffed, “You weren’t even in the city at the time. The married one, wasn’t married to me. She also had a spouse that liked to disappear with no word. I understood her pain. I helped her deal with it.” As he spoke, he noted her tell tale hints that she was in pain. But she had the right as a patient in her right mind, to refuse care. Which is what she just did.

Cytherea: A sharp in take of fresh air caused pain to roar like a savage beast through her body, but it compared nought to the sudden ache in her heart. How he spoke to freely of his infidelity to her, like it was nothing. And to lay the blame directly at her feet. The steel grip that held her emotions in check slipped, as her hurt reflected, her eyes showing how that jagged edge had done it’s purpose, done as he wanted. But she tilted her chin defiantly then, her tongue stabbing the edge of her lip to reign in the water in her eyes. She’d say it was from her wounds, she’d do what he did so easily. Lie. ‘’I see. How.. nice for you.’’ it was said blankly then. She’d let her guard down, and bam, sucker punch. She would not retaliate though. Instead she’d get over it. ‘’I’m sure Cat’s got some drugs around here. I’ll make do. I’m sure you have things to take care off. It was a pleasure.’’ She didn’t really bother to wait then, she walked past him, not caring that each step probably tore at the stitches, she didn’t want to her here, damn him.

Doc: Doc saw how his words had hurt her. And he should have feel vindicated. He should felt pleased how he was able to hurt her, the way she had hurt him. It should have pleased him, but it didn’t. The hurt that had been reflected in her eyes, made him feel like a ******* heel. She was hurt; no she was mangled and he, the doctor, used that moment, her moment of ultimate weakness to kick her when she was down. He drew a deep breath. “That was uncalled for. I am sorry.”

Cytherea: His words caused her to stop, her body thankful. But she didn’t turn, her back remained rigid. Turning would reveal more than she was willing to; her defences were down, due to her current state, or that she’d trusted him not to do as he had, she didn’t know. But her chin trembled then, as she heard his apology, but it didn’t lessen the blow, or her thoughts running wild, images of him, with someone else. And through all her trials and tribulations, her strength crumbled, as those tears fell. He’d probably accuse her of using her womanly charms to cry, to twist things. She kept her head ducked, not daring to turn. What difference would it make, if she faced him. None. Swallowing thickly, she managed to reply. ‘’It’s alright. I deserved it. You’re right.’’

Doc: ****. He heard the tears in her voice. What else did he expect when he kicked her when she was as low as she could be already? “I’m sorry.” He moved toward her, his voice resigned to the fact he had fucked up. “You need to lie down.. Come on.” He took her hand, he didn’t force her to look at him. That was the last thing he wanted. He pulled her toward the bedroom, where he gave her a gentle push toward the bed, “I’ll go get your drink… or whatever you left in the kitchen.”

Cytherea: When has hand came to touch her, she instantly drew away, flinching as if he had physically assaulted her, her gaze finding his now. Was he insane? He’d just said the most hateful thing she could probably think, at the worst possible time. Yes, she was crying, it was evident, even now as stared at him, she was pretty upset. And that was dangerous, because that led a very short path to anger. ‘’Why are you sorry? You made no attempt to hide how happy she had made you, your face clearly displaying that. Nor did your words conceal it. Or that it’s my fault. No. You knew what you intended with those words.’’ she said the truth, her pain quite evident. ‘’Is this what you wanted? Would you like more tears? You wanted to hurt me. Congratulations. Why did you even come here?’’ it baffled her, that a man who could look after her, patch her up, could have been so hateful. She was shaking then, from exhaustion, hurt. Both hands lifted to rake across her face and through her hair. Calm down, she pleaded to herself. Calm. It’s okay. ‘’I..’’ she didn’t know what to say. He’d got what he wanted, but now it wasn’t good enough? ‘’I don’t know what to say.’’ and it was the truth.

Doc: Doc didn’t say anything. He deserved that and more. He went to the kitchen collected her drink and sat it on the bedstand. He filled the syringe with pain killer and laid it beside the cup. His voice was flat, dead. “You’ve already overdone it. You need to lie down, let your body heal. I fixed a syringe for you in case you need it. I wont be back. If you need anything, tell Cat. She will get it for you.”

Cytherea: That was the final straw, that stupid prick. **** it, if she died here, she’d ruin his ******* ****. Whilst he was fretting over some stupid syringe and water, she ran at him, **** the wounds, **** him, **** everything. She managed to knock him onto the bed, this man had managed to break her self control in a week. Record. She was onto of him, her face fuelled with rage. ‘’You’re a freaking asshole, Doc. I did not deserve that. Don’t you ever dare flaunt your infidelity in front of me again. I’ve been nothing but civil, calm, and what does it get me? A smack in the face. If you don’t want civility, let me know. If you want this, hell. Lets go. Lets be up front, least you can give me some ******* honesty after that!’ she’d succumbed to her lesser half. She’d not struck him. She didn’t think she could at this moment. She’d all but screamed at him in frustration. ‘’Just because you can’t deal with ****, doesn’t give you a right to.. to do that!’’ He’d probably be happy, he handled rage better than tears. He’d say a few words, then poof. Happily flee.

Doc: He didn’t stop her as she pushed him on the bed, he waited for her to hit him. It was what he deserved, “That was why I ******* apologized woman! You did not deserve it.. I know that. Why the **** do you think I apologized?! Because I like emasculating myself?! Do you think I like the fact that I am an asshole! Why did I say it?! Because you hurt me! You were supposed to be there for me when no one else was! But you weren’t! I wanted pay back..” his died off.. “You’ve been more than fair. I wanted to know you hurt too.”

Cytherea: A fist never met his face, her hands had found purchase on his chest, clenching his shirt tightly, her knuckles white. How she had the strength was a mystery. Certainly a few wounds had been reawoken, but that was not as important as this. Doc finally being honest and upfront. No mirrors, no tricks. Her grip laxed, her hands falling limply then as she settled back to rest on his legs, just staring down at him. It would be impossible to read her, if he tried, he’d get no where. She averted her gaze, peering at the flowers she’d bought. Flowers, he always hated them. ‘’Of course I hurt. I hurt a lot. When you love someone, but it’s not returned. When you love someone you’ve hurt, it only hurts you. When someone you love, love someone else. I never intentionally inflicted it though. I swear. I’m trying to atone for my mistakes, I’m trying so hard, but if this is what meets me, what would be the point?’ Just punish me and get it over with. Take your revenge.’ she asked truthfully. If he only wanted to hurt her, what would be the point.

Doc: “I am not here for revenge. Well I wasn’t .. But I am not perfect. You standing there taunting me.. about what a faithless husband I was.. how magnanimous you would be on my behalf in telling Elliot I was a good little boy. I snapped. I wanted you to hurt.” He stopped, his jaw was clenched. He didn’t try to stop her from pummeling him, if that was what she wanted. “But lets get one thing straight here.. You are the one wanted to cut me down to size.. not the other way around. You came back to shred me for everything I wasn’t. I wasn’t ever going to be good enough. It was clear every time you left. When I thought things were fine, you would leave. Why? Because I ******* failed you.. You know the real shitty part of the whole thing Cytherea?! I still don’t know what I did to fail you!”

Cytherea: Taunting? She hadn’t been taunting him. No, breathe, just calm down. This is all just blown out of proportion. ‘’I was not taunting you. I didn’t mention your fidelity until after what you said. You brought Elliot into the conversation, not me. I was saying what I thought, because it seemed fitting. You only came here to help me because you didn’t want my sire being a twat if he knew you’d ignored your instincts. I said ‘’I’ll pretend it’s because you’re a worried husband’’ to comfort me. Because you did everything in your damn power to prove you weren’t here as a husband, you weren’t here because you cared about me like that. I said that for me, not for you.’’ how he’d even twisted that, was pretty amazing. Even when he said about not being good enough, she just didn’t understand Doc. Had he not listened the week before? ‘’What the **** are you talking about. I left because I’m in love with you, and you made it clear you’d never reciprocate those feelings. Either out of not wanting to, or unable. I don’t know. You didn’t fail me. I didn’t know how to handle my own feelings. So I ran, like a chicken, each time. Much like you did tonight.’’ she pointed out. Maybe that would help it sink in, as her honey gaze found his face once more. Idiot.

Doc: Doc narrowed his eyes. The narrowing of the eyes was followed by a frown of confusion. No. No.. Yes she had said she loved him, but that was what people do. They throw that word around like it’s magic. Watch television enough and you can talk yourself into ‘loving your car’. Love doesn’t exist. The fact she left because she thought she ‘loved’ him, proved his point. People in love don’t leave. At least according to movies. He spoke slowly, as he was still trying to work this out. “I wasn’t running. I was trying not to be made a fool of again.” Did Cytherea think that her ‘love’ made her a fool? His brow furrowed deeper. She was afraid she was being used? He was manipulative. He was a ********. He was twenty plus years older than her. He closed his eyes. What a **** he was. Even if she was playing him, he probably deserved it.

Cytherea: There were two paths, and Doc always ******* managed to take the wrong one, she concluded, the one that painted a picture in darkness. She saw the doubt and scepticism clouding his face, even confusion. Jesus christ, how hard was it to understand something so simple. I love you, moron. God, the urge to scream at him was mounting, but she suppressed it easily. Not now. ‘’Listen Doc. I don’t claim to be a saint. I’ve fucked up, a lot. You were the first man I’d got involved with, cared for, and then I fell in love with you. But you’re like a brick wall at times. I can’t make a wall love me, your defences are pretty ******* strong. I’d come back, and I’d think. Right, it’s cool. I can handle loving him, not getting anything back. And it only happened twice, before the major year. And one of those was you putting me to sleep, by accident, I know. It’s freaking normal to struggle with something you’ve never felt before.’’ and she had, to the point of running away, to the point of thinking she could cope. ‘’You spout this ********, ‘’I’m not capable of love. don’t get your hopes up.’’ took me a long time to realise you’re so full of ****.’’ she shot, not maliciously, she wanted him to know she knew. ‘’You’re scared to let it happen. To love. You hide behind your mask of horror, your murder, rape. You want to be the bad guy, cause, bad guys can’t love. Can they?’’

Cytherea: Cytherea was not saying anything to hurt him, she was trying to make him see how their actions weren’t far apart. ‘’You’ve just hurt me, yet, I didn’t attack you. I only ever attacked you for fun. If I can still stand here after what you just said, you need to think clearly why I would. If you want to believe I’m playing you, your choice. There’s the door. Go. And I won’t contact you again. You aren’t a bad guy, I know that. And you know that. Lets be honest with each other, you know I saw it. I never once thought you weren’t good enough for me. If I thought that, I’d not be standing here, trying to drill this into your head, would I?’’

Doc: He stared at her. Love did not exist. He had seen too many people kill one another in the name of love. Husbands killing their wives. Mothers killing their children in the name of love. So in his mind he exchanged her word ‘love’ with adore or adoration. That he did believe exist. And to his knowledge he never heard of someone killing because of adoration. “I am a bad guy. I know this. Your sire knows this.” He stared up at her. “You were young. We should have never bound. You deserved someone that could give you all those things you wanted. I was too old for you. I am not blaming you. I should have stopped it. I should have saved you from all this… hurt. But here we are. Its my fault, and you are far too forgiving Cytherea.” (cont)

Doc: “Part of me wants you. And that’s why I am running. Because I am really not good for you. If you were older, you would see it.”

Cytherea: Doc really was clueless. He understood the basic things, the surface, but he didn’t seem to understand anything beneath that. Mostly because he ignored it, squashed it, destroyed it before it could take root. He didn’t want to, because fear governed him. ‘’Give me what? What is it you think a person could give me, that you didn’t? Say love, I dare ya.’’ she was smiling then, as she stared him dead on. ‘’Love is a word. Actions speak louder than words. Yet. Look, here I am, here you are. And here you are, hurt, because you hurt me. Protecting me. Worried about me. Even though you don’t want to, right? If you had to put a label on that, what you you class it as? Honestly. You speak of how I hurt you, yet, here you are. If anyone else had hurt you, you’d have killed them for ever looking at you again. You’d be indifferent. You wouldn’t care. Love is not about being good, or bad. I’d rather feel something, than nothing. I’d rather want to punch your ******* face in, than the emotionless shell I was without you. You’re projecting your fears or not being good enough here, not me. I never once thought you weren’t good enough. If I’d wanted something more. Don’t you think I’d have looked for it? I didn’t. Not once. You handled it slightly different. You couldn’t really handle it, could you? So you pushed yourself into other people, women. Lust. Sex. But did it ever really delve deeper than that? Than the surface. Than just a like?’’

Doc: Doc wasn’t going to dwell on his feelings, instead he would focus on what someone else, someone other than him could give her. “What can they give you? Openness. You’re right. I shut down. I close up.” He nodded. “They can give you honesty. They can give you a life not filled with doubts. They can put you on a pedestal and give you all the good emotion that I cannot.” Inwardly he still believed love did not exist. Love was a construct from religion and business. Religion to get the needy to pour money into their coffers, and businesses to sell useless material items that would prove ‘someone’s love’.

Cytherea: ‘’They aren’t you.’’ it was simple. And that’s all she said to his own self destruction, his own words of hate to himself. It was true, he wasn’t open, he liked games, she’d be able to find someone willing to give her all of those things. But she didn’t want them. ‘’This is pretty pointless. You’ve convinced yourself that you think you’re bad for me, a marriage isn’t easy. And it certainly isn’t all sunshine and daisies. But, that’s neither here nor there. I won’t bother you anymore. Thank you for patching me up, I’ll be sure to try and clear the blood when I can.’’ she’d removed herself from his person, taking few steps away as her arms came to lock across her chest. ‘’Sorry for the inconvenience. I’m sure this is not how you wanted to spend your night, but it was kind of you.’’ the last part wasn’t insulting, it was true. If he was the ******** he claimed, he’d have let her bleed, he’d have come and watched and took joy in it. But he hadn’t.

Doc: Doc sat up, then stood up. He unconsciously straightened his wrinkled and damp clothes, "You're welcome. Have good evening." There wasn't much else he could say. Well there was, but he had to sort it out. He had convinced himself that she was better off without him. But part of that was because he had thought she left because he wasn't giving her what she wanted. But if she said she left because she was scared.. Wait. Stop. Don't go there. Time. He needed time to sort things out. Hell as far as he knew the minute he caved to her, she would be out of town so fast heads would be spin and he would be Charlie Brown, to Lucy's pulling the football out from under him. Time would tell.
