The way she always smiled showed just the top row of teeth. They were revealed now as her concentration left Charles for his childe. "It's nice to meet you, Lennox." The prying, invisible fingers halted at this mind. It didn't work into the memories, watch them the same way she watched movies. Like wearing their skins, falling into their point of view.

She guided one of her arms out, like a presentation. To get the other two involved. Her head was tunnel visioned, some of the surroundings were and were not there. It had her singling out people. Dresses. Suits. First she played a hand to the small of Nerissa's back.

"This is my childe Nerissa, and this is my girlfriend Beverly."

Her eyes locked onto Charles. For his reaction to her words.

To be honest, Doc didn’t react to Lucretia’s comment, apart from a nod. He had met Beverly before, and to be honest, he wasn’t that impressed with her. She played the naive game far too strongly. He had also seen her glom on to more than one female in the short span of time he had been aware of her. She was the clingy sort. Maybe Lucretia had found what she had been searching for, but he doubted it.

It seemed that the younger generation changed partners like he changed suits. He really didn’t care, as long as they kept him out of their break ups. That thought caused him to slide a look at Klara and Vada. He gave that relationship eighteen months more. He made a mental note to log that in his journal.

Bringing his thoughts back to the present, he looked at the group, “Were any of you invited to Ric and Skylar's wedding?”

I'm being forced to converse. With Pi and Elliot of all people. I look at Skylar when Pi says she's heard about the wedding. I didn't think it was anything to talk about really. Nothing fancy, nothing planned. It just happened. I nod, not putting in my two cents about my feelings or thoughts about the wedding. I could see the typical female getting upset if I said it wasn't really anything to talk about.

Skylar says I'm a one of a kind. I'm not sure that's true, but I don't correct her. It's her perception. Changing ones perception is a difficult task without factual evidence to present them with. I open my mouth to try and say something nice that Skylar's told me about Pi, but I realize I don't know anything about her. Other than that night at the auction and the things I saw and heard. "It must have been a lot of work running the auction." I comment idly. My personal thoughts on what happened pushed aside.

Pi smiled, the expression quick and fleeting. “I do better with organizing facts and numbers than I do with people, but it was okay.” She replied, being wholly honest in a way to build a conversational bridge. She wasn’t that great at these things either, she just might be better at hiding it. She came to them (very very rarely – this might be the first one this year) but they weren’t default settings or her preference. In that way she felt for the man who was obviously trying very hard to be … conversant.

“But I think it’s worth it. If we are to work with, around and beside normal humans then these sort of events are good. If they’re well managed. It is a bit like herding cats though.. that part isn’t as much fun. I’m curious about why people put themselves up for auction, what made you?”

I know only a few words have been exchanged so far but I’m so ******* proud of Ric it’s untrue. He kinda puts me to shame actually. He’s trying. Like really trying and Elliot was quite ******* rude last time the two of them were face to face. I should probably make more of an effort with Kat… for Ric’s sake. If we’re ever in the same room again. She didn’t RSVP, not that I’d expected her to really if I’m honest. I mean if I wanted to **** Elliot and him and Pi got married I’m not sure I’d feel much like celebrating it with them.
I look at Elliot. The kinda look that tells him that I think he’s been quiet for too long. It’s not long at all really and I know it, I’m just eager to get this conversation over with so I can get Ric away somewhere quieter. I’m not sure if he wants to play pool. If he goes outside I might go with him. If he wants me to. Though I’m not sure if it looks better or worse if we both leave for a bit. Though… **** it. Right? Our party. Our rules.
Am I strong enough?

Lucretia wanted to peer inside and refrained. She had spoken so much about change about her improvements. Here she was, working against weeks worth of effort. Months of practice, rehearsing and leasing impulses. On the bright side, there had been no cracks in any glass surfaces, no sound of them splintering. That part of her was what had made this night a reconsideration hours after that, Yes I'll go, was exchanged between Beverly and herself. Idle touches passed from the Telepath to her Allurist.

"We all were invited. Family was all," she said. There was no sign of Phoenix and that struck her the exact moment the words came out of her mouth. There was recent contact from her sire. Time wound up in work, the absence of people faded. That didn't happen with Phoenix. The worm grew restless among the crevices of the brain. It would nag her in her sleep, ask her endless questions. Sometimes it took days to silence it. One particularly bad spell had been cured by staying in Phoenix's apartment. She twirled a cocoon from the old comforter and slept upright, bound to put pressure on her chest.

The allurist nodded, a greeting when Pyper introduced her. She had met this man once before at an auction she had attended with her sire. Evidently he was aquainted with many of her friends and family, but to her he seemed as if his advanced age had leeched life and feeling from him, possibly even before he had been killed. Inwardly shrugging she smiled to the wrinkled prune, then sipped of her water. "Lucretia has mentioned you are her employer, it is a pleasure to meet you once more."

Nerissa had been distracted by the people around her, so she missed most of the conversation. When Pyper placed her hand on her back she jumped slightly, and tried to focus on what those around her were saying. She wasn't usually this distracted. Maybe she was finally getting used to the thought that other people could be interesting. She turned her attention to Doc. "So I hear Pyper works for you, but I never caught what it is you do." She studied the man as she waited for a response.

Elliot stood beside Pi; his arm touched hers, but nothing more intimate than that. He had been possessive beforehand, but he had since assured himself of his own worthiness. Although Elliot could be modest and was mostly generous with digs against himself (that he made himself, and that others made about him - he did think he was a dour lanky lout, that he would not disagree with), he also had a dignified self-confidence. One that didn't overstep into ego, but which was there nonetheless. Pi was with him. She wore a ring that matched the one on his own finger. They were not married, but they belonged to each other. They knew it - they needed to official document to make it so.

He caught the look given to him by Skylar and arched a brow. He was being quiet; he could be quiet, at times. He got louder when a topic of interest came up, but at the moment he was happy to let Roderic and Pi talk. To stand idly by and get to know by observation.

He kissed Klara on the cheek softly as he stood and made his way away from the others, had he stayed long enough? He felt a little better but his body felt weaker then normal, he also hungered badly. He used his inner self will and ignored the hunger, soon it would over whelm him, and slipped against the far wall next to the pool tables.

He leaned against them as he moved his hand through his hair and slowly tugged it back as he tried to recover. He kept his distance from everyone and silently settled on a chair around the corner away from everyone as he shut his eyes and rubbed his head.
