Money in the bank (Doc)

Post by Leigh (DELETED 5751) »

When Leigh had woken up this evening there was an envelope on the table next to the bed labeled ‘BANK’ in big bold black letters. Adien had clearly wanted her to take it to there. She looked at her phone that was next to it. “****!.” She bolted up from the bed. She was already running late but added to it that she would have to hit the bank before class...her professor would not be released. Adien had been right when he told her she should take online classes.

Within ten minutes she she showered, dressed, and out the door. Lucky for her that there was a bank right next to the Honeymead station and it would be easy for her to take get to the school that way. The worst part about having to go to any of the banks at this time is that you always have to wait.

She found what looked like the shortest line and jumped in. She moved her messenger bag around to where she could get the envelope for the main pocket and count out how much she was to deposit. In true style, the man had left her almost twenty grand to deposit. She sighed out as she thought to herself how much this bank must think she is a drug dealer or something like that, with as much as she brings ridiculous amounts of cash to them. At least it never went into her own account and always ended up in his.

Leigh put the money back into her bag as she looked around at the people. She had not feed in her haste to get out the door. She forced herself to focus on something different for the moment. Sure the bank was normally busy now but the number of people stood out to her more this time. Maybe it had been pay day for most people. She turned back to face the line she was in as she hoped the teller would hurry up.

Over the last ten days, Doc had not had the best of time. It wasn’t any one person or thing’s fault. It was the ‘build up’ effort which accounted for his sour mood. Catherine was missing. He and Tori had argued .. again. Klara was stressed. And even though he had told her he would support whatever decision she came to, it was clear she was not happy. Phoenix needed sick leave, Ari was shot to hell, Minx was her usual caustic self and.. AND as if to add insult to injury, the ******* restroom was an issue .. again. With all those issues, it was a relief to actually get out and do some mundane, brainless activity like go to the bank.

He needed a cashier’s check. He had purchased a relic from Phoenix and he needed to make sure the payment was processed expeditiously. If there was a pet peeve he had, it was things being late. He liked things to be punctual. If a time was set, he stuck to the time, and if he was late, no one could give him more grief, than he gave himself. And this was one of those occasions where he was annoyed at himself. He had meant to send Phoenix payment yesterday, however, time and unforeseen occurrence reared it ugly little head, and he missed getting to the bank by five minutes. That meant he would miss his self imposed deadline to Phoenix. It was irksome, especially after the last few days he had experienced. Was it too much to ask for things to go smoothly?

Was it too much? Apparently it was. Doc entered the bank to be greeted with a line at every ******* teller. His simple errand, had now turned into a monumental pain in the ***. He picked the shortest teller line, getting in behind an impatient girl who seemed just as anxious as he was to get to his business done. At first he was confused as to why the bank was so busy. Then it hit him. It was the holidays. ****. So on top of everything else he had going, now he had to go shopping. **** that. He was doing Amazon this year. He sighed and pulled out his cell, as long as he was waiting he could start now.

A blast of cold air swept into the bank as group of people rushed in. “Everybody on the ground! This is a ROBBERY!”

“On! The! Ground!.” Another one of the men that entered ordered. “Now!” He and some of his companions brought out their fire arms so that it could be seen that they meant business. Form the way they moved and spread out, it appeared that this was not their first time doing such a thing.

“****…” She whispered slowly as she lowered herself down and did as she was told. This was the last thing that she needed today. She was sure that she was not the only person that was less than thrilled by the group showing up. On the bright side of things, she now had a good reason why she was going to be late for class. Now she just had to hope that she wouldn’t be shot. Last thing she needed was to have to explain why she wasn’t as hurt as she should be from her wounds.

She slowly looked around at some of the others around her. There were old people, young people, little kids, pregnant ladies, and then the everyday normal joe in here. She slowly moved her hands to her pocket to get her cell. Before she could get it out to do anything, another one in the group yells out “Take our your cell phones and place them in the bags!” A few of them of them start to go around, collecting everyone’s cells.

“****…” She whispered again as the bag comes to her and she slowly pulls it out and places it in the opened bag. She didn’t look up at the man that had the bag. If there was anything she had learned from all the crime shows she had watched, it was to never look at any of the bad guys faces, at least not while they knew you were looking.

Doc sighed one of those long-suffering, ‘why me’ sighs. He had the worst luck with his ******* phone. It seemed as though everyone and their brother wanted his phone. He lowered himself to the ground. He fished his phone out of his pocket, held it upside down and quickly tried to text Ariadne a cryptic message just as there was a bag thrust in his face.

“Phone, old man.” The robber shook the bag. “NOW!”

Doc’s jaw clenched tight, he glared up at the robber. Yes he knew it was a bad move. He was probably making himself a target. But Doc wanted to stall so he could finish his text, as well as get any clues to the robber’s identity as possible. He took his time as he reluctantly dropped his phone into the bag. He had no idea if his message was sent .. and if it did get sent, he was even less sure if the text would make any sense to Ari.

However, that thought was abruptly halted when the Robber took the butt of his gun and slapped it up against Doc’s head. “That is for taking too long.. go ahead.. piss me off old man..keep looking at me.. I will shoot your ***.”

His head was pounding from that blow. He knew he deserved it. He lowered his gaze and started counting. He counted when he got angry or frustrated. Right now, he was both. Angry that he lost his phone -again- and frustrated because he could probably take out two of four of the robbers, but he would have to break the masquerade to do it. Because he would be too fast, and if he did get hit by gunfire, it wouldn’t stop him. So instead of taking action, he had to play the helpless victim. Even more frustrating. The robber finally moved on.

Doc winced as he turned his head to look at the others laying next to him. There was girl who was carefully keeping her gaze averted; an older woman who gave him a sympathetic nervous look; and another man about his own age who gave him a ‘you will get us all killed you asshole’ look. He wanted to tell the other man ‘**** you’, and he may have, had he not gotten a message from Ariadne at that moment.

Ariadne: Mindspeak: ~Done. Come find me when you need it back.~

Doc grinned. Ariadne could track his phone. Which meant he could track the bank robbers, and he could kill them. Things were looking up.

The man that is next to her is grinning. This is confusing for many reasons. One everyone is a hostage right now, including him. Two everyone's phone just got taken. This might be more upsetting to some than to others, but still most phones were not cheap now a days. Three and probably the most puzzling one to her was he just got ***** slapped by one of the robbers guns.

Not that she would know how that feels but being hit by anything hard in the head was bound to leave one sore or at the very least pissed off. So again why was this man grinning. She slowly slid her way closer to the man where she would be about to whisper to him without most others being about to hear. “Are you okay? I know that had to hurt.”

Sure it was probably a bad idea to try and talk to anyone but she could not help it. Something in her made her want to help others, if they needed it or not she was going to offer. It wasn’t the best part of her but it was there none the less.
