Mb walked into the bar, cursing lightly under her breath. She had been here three days now and so far the straight earning wasn’t so bad. She had only one issue and figured she should get to know the boss. Shaking her head at the thought she had a boss. What would her girls say if they saw her now.
She had to send them back to New York. She missed them, but the were made of softer stuff. Janis nearly lost her damn mind the first time she woke up somewhere not remembering anything. She had promised to take care of them when they ran and she still meant to all these years later.
Taking off her leather she sat it behind the bar. She still had a little before she had to work. Sliding onto a stool, she waited for Mkvenner to be free. She watched him and his crew, it was almost like being home before her old man got pinched. The one thing she liked about the place was so far no one had requested her to take off her cut. She might be the only one here in Harper Rock, but those patches represented growing up and making it on the streets of New York. Not too many girls as young as she was would of survived. None besides her and her girls could she think made it without selling their ***.
She mindlessly sang along with the song on the jukebox, spinning the empty bottle someone had set on the bar. Besides Rod, these were the first people she met in the city. Well first ones that weren’t part of her side gig. Though she was fairly certain some of them could help her out in a pinch. If she asked real nice and it was for her maybe. As it was right now, she wasn't hard up. Granted it was an iffy thing with some of them. There were a few times she had woken up in a park. So far her best bet was hitting up Rod. Truthfully she didnt mind donating. She just had a firm rule that it had to be someone she knew and for love of all that was leather, they had to keep her memory in tact.

Ven was working the bar when she walked in. He'd hired her a few days back, not really knowing anything about her other than that Roderic had mentioned the name to him about a year ago. Not being ready to put down roots so much at that point, he'd filed it away under 'things to be revisited' and had subsequently forgotten about it until her application had crossed his desk. Remember what Roderic had had to say, he hired the girl as a matter of course, giving her a position as a barmaid without too much consideration. He'd said she was good people, so she was good people.
Working the bar was a bit strong, upon further thought. He was leaning against it facing away from the bar proper, a cigarette hanging loosely from his lips and a glass of a liquid best left undescribed held at waist height. Which, in fairness, was his usual method of 'working' in the bar. The way he saw it, he had staff to take care of his patrons. He just had to stand there looking like he owned the place. Drinking on the job was a perk he enjoyed to its fullest; so much so that he extended it to his staff.
The way he was standing also had the added advantage of displaying his colours as best as he was able. They were none too subtle by design. Neither was the grin he flashed each new patron through the door, carefully calculated to display just enough tooth to give the impression that his canines were just a tad too long to be normal. There was also the way that he was clearly drinking blood from a clear glass.
In his bar, it paid to know who was who. What was what. Who was what. His staff was made up of a mix of vampires and humans. His regulars were humans, both blood thieves and gangsters, and vampires. Even the occasional paladin, much to his enjoyment. The rules were simple. Don't start nothing, won't be nothing. He'd heard it in a movie once and liked the sound, but it applied here too. His staff were off limits to patrons, his patrons were off limits to the staff. So far it had mostly worked out.
He finished the drink masquerading as his breakfast, placed the glass in the bar sink and moved over to his newest employee.
"So," he began, "How're you finding the job so far, love?"

Mb smiled at the man across the bar. “I’m holding up, boss man.” Resting her elbows on the bar she gave him a small smirk. “Though to be honest I need to know the perks of working here. For me and the patrons. I had assumed there was a strict no drinking the clientele, but does is this poor defenseless human a specialty?” The smirk turned into a full fledged smile. She never would consider herself defenseless, even if she worked and ran with a couple vamps.
Sitting back and running her fingers through her hair she continued. “Just honestly hate that waking up in the park ****. Its not so much donating. But whats between friends is fine you know?” It went without saying that she has had her share of donated blood, but she paid for that.
The two times she was closing up she never made it to her room. She would of liked to say it was on the way home, but both times she hadn’t even left the bar yet. At least the person could of done was brought her a drink.
While she watched him, she took in all the small details that said what this man was. It never failed to amaze her how much they could blend in if you didn’t know what to look for. Granted there were a few that just stuck out. Walking corpses and she wasn’t thinking about the zombies. Those were just another oddity to deal with if you wanted to live in this city. At this point she couldn’t imagine going back to New York. As crazy as it was here she had never felt more at home.

"Good to hear," he nodded, "As far as perks go, you get to drink on the job and I don't mind if you punch people... just keep it in the basement, yeah? Same generally goes for the patrons, except they need to pay for what they drink."
Ven frowned as she continued. His staff were off limits. Anything else was disrespect, both to him and to his place of business. He'd already had to hit up a couple of people for beating on his staff, get some cash out of them as reparations.
"Yeah... yeah there is," he replied, "I take a dim view on it. All sorts come here, and they're safe to. See over there? That's a blood thief drinking with a gangster and a vampire at the same table. Her? She's a pureblood human. We have one on staff, too. Obviously, you know what I am. I don't exactly make a secret of it."
He grinned, tapping a fang with his index finger.
"But that don't mean we have to act like people expect us to. Everyone needs somewhere to come to have a quiet drink and be left the hell alone. Ain't nowhere else like this place in the city, and I'm damned proud of it. I want to keep it that way."
Pouring himself another drink, he nodded at the door to the back room.
"You need a place to crash where you'll be left alone, the stairs back there lead to Church. It's secure and you'll be left alone. Won't need to wake up in the park anymore, love," he offered, "At least until we find out who's been snacking on the staff and show them why that's a bad idea. Pretty sure I can find a pair of pliers somewhere around here."
