Re: (ooc) HARPER ROCK AUCTIONS - Brought to you by Lancaster
Have you ever tried bidding on something on ebay?
That's just how I thought the system worked. If someone swoops in then baaad luck. XD
Though I suppose given the times differences and such, I can see your point.

Because, like Chloe said, people can sooOOOO swoop if they want to :) I do it all the time on online auctions, wait for the last minute and BOOM, win it :)Momento wrote:Is there a reason t went from 24 hr standing bid to a set time?
I preferred 24 hrs so no one can swoop in and steal the person you wanna buy at the last minute >>

Although, I might create a new rule that any swooping votes within 5 minutes of bidding end will extend bidding by five more minutes. That's how our online auction sites are sometimes set up :)
That would make it interesting.
It works like this:
Deadline: Midnight 000am
Bid 11:59pm
auction extended to 0.05am
Bid at 0.04am
Auction auto extends to 0.10am
To be fair, that would take ALOT of work on my part and I'm not sure I'm keen on that since it may mean tying myself to a computer for hoooooooooours when I'm right in the middle of exams, but it's a thing to consider :)

Yeah since the person id be bidding on will prolly be a fight with another person (all of whom were friends) and that person can't always check path with their time zone issues, i figured it would be more sporting for it to last 24 hrs. Because I can swoop like crazy - i have no life - but others do and you can't get an email that says 'bid ending soon' on path >>

Still in agreement with Mom's player.

If that is the case, then I think this works better for people who don't have much time, they can check back anytime they want during the two weeks to bid.
The only thing they need to do, if they really really want to win, is be around at EST Midnight on the night the auction closes, rather than linger back around checking the bidding every 24 hour period to make sure no one has bid since.

And Yeah, but that's mainly true for the poor people in Europe, cause midnight EST is like, 5am their time. . It's not wildly convenient for Chloe and I here on this side of the world, but at least it's in the middle of our day/evening.
I gave as much of a time benefit as I could to those bulk of the players located in North Americas. :) The rest of us will just have to deal with the time zones. Natasha did suggest next year to change the auction time to SUNRISE instead of day change, but I'm not awake at 1am and I just... can't.
I would be ugh! and ARGGH and then at lectures I'd be doooooooooh. >.>

No.
imo that would be crossing.... using the fact that others can not be online to outbid all of their auctions, the auctions are ic. But that's just my opinion. It's been known to happen that a player gets in a tiff about something that was ic and then does something ooc to get even in my past experiences.
