facing the demons {altaire}

Post by Jamie »

tick, tock, tick, tock.
How long had she been in the realms? A long time. A year? Was it less – maybe more. Grief had driven her there, she had no purpose Tytonidae was a distant memory. The raven haired female stared hard at the tiled floor of the quarantine zone – she had been here, since she had returned beating the crap out of this, that or the other that got in her way. It was a venting system she had come up with, before she had taken her own life – she had enjoyed breaking and entering, she had even enjoyed making traps – but she didn’t hadn’t touched a crafting table, or even stolen anything since her return. She had simply shot one thing, after the other. Until it was dead and unrecognizable. A mushy pile of flesh at her feet, it was simple. She enjoyed the scent of death.

She blamed herself for Juliet’s disappearance. She was sure most of Altaire did as well. Juliet being so heartbroken, had been Athena’s fault. The woman still had the pair of Amaranthine Rings, they were dangling around her neck, on a simple silver chain, a reminder to herself that she was a **** up. She didn’t know what she had expected when she had come back – to be pelted with stones by Altaire, driven to take her own life – yet again?

No one likes you.
Voices, yes. Athena heard them – gave in to them sometimes she swore at times she was insane, could being in the realms for so long have driven her to madness? She could have believed it to be true. The shadow was weaker; she lacked confidence in her abilities. Over and over she would hack, and slash at beasts as they got in her way – some ferals would beat her, causing the woman to retreat, most though – fell at her feet in a pile of ash.

After much deliberation, she summoned a fadebeast – to see if she still had it, that mojo that Phoenix had seen in her when she was first turned, Mini-Nix she used to be called, but now it seemed like she couldn’t live up to the name – everything seemed to defeat her now, even this angry fadebeast knocked her for six. The shadow was at a loss, pacing through the buildings of the quarantine zone – she had to find her confidence again. If she found her confidence again everything would fall into place, but right now – she was at a loss.

She felt like an outsider looking in on what she used to have, strength, compassion, trust.

I was busy collecting zombie ears for a specific ritual that helped me survive when I saw her. Athena.
Just thinking the name brought a sour taste in my mouth. Jules went to Mexico to get away from her. At least that was my belief. All Juliet's family problems should have been sorted by now and with her prolonged absence and knowing what Athena did to Juliet; how she changed Juliet only confirmed the thoughts I kept to myself when Athena came back.

But here she was.
All by herself. Getting her *** kicked. I yank off an ear, chuck it in a small bag and watch Athena try, try and fail over and over again. Some would have laughed in amusement or laughed just to be cruel. The thought had crossed my mind, but this was down right pathetic. She was a ******* Altaire, even if I didn't like it. She was Nix's and so any urge I had to stab her in the head multiple times subsided as I approached her, slowly. I was in no hurry. I wasn't even sure if I wanted to help her yet.

But then I spoke and here we were. It seemed I was going to help her. "Well, at least that cockroach under your boot got what was coming to him." I claim a wall with my left shoulder and watch her. I have no specific look on my face. I'm just observing for the time being. Stating the obvious. She had killed the roach, even if it hadn't been her intended target.
