Doc: Doc shot a quick email to the company to inform them it would be three or four days before he could his arrange his schedule to be in Vancouver. Their reply was swift, assuring him, that they were more than willing to work with his schedule. He figured he could leave the next night and be there for a meeting first thing Tuesday morning.
Doc: Going about his regular duties the early evening went by as normal. The abnormal happened about a quarter to midnight. He had stepped out of the lab to take a smoke break when he saw it. It was parked across from the bank in Newborough. What the **** that car, that thing of beauty was doing parked along the Harper Rock streets, he had no idea. The pull of that powerful beast just a few hundreds meters from him was too strong to resist.
Doc: Before he knew it, Doc was behind the wheel and headed to the outskirts of Harper Rock. He pulled his cell from his pocket and called Minx, when the call was eventually answered, he said without preamble, “I want to show you what I found in the street.. may I come over?” The affirmative answer was not eager or even polite. It had been given grudgingly, as though she expected the worst. and she added that it had to be quick as she was headed out. It was a few minutes later, when the LaFerrari rumbled onto the narrow driveway that lead to Dominique’s hide-away-home. As he stopped right in front of her door, Doc revved the engine and blew the horn. He reached over to open the passenger door. The gull-wing door slid upwards in a graceful arc as Dominique opened her front door.
Doc: From the driver’s seat Doc leaned toward the opening and grinned at her, “Saw it, and I knew I had to take it for a spin. Want to go a test drive before I have to return it? I Drive out.. you drive back?”
Dominique: It was barely enough time for Dominique to step outside and turn around to find the last thing she ever expected to see. The dream of any true car connoisseur had its engine revving in her drive. Even more bizarre was that Doc had current possession of it. What were the odds of that being an honest presentation? She had seen a lot of what was in the Canadian streets and she never saw a LaFerrari. She shook her head slowly. He would steal anything and she was sure of it. The tight fit of her jeans pressing the worn green rosary beads into the depths of her left hip pocket reminded her why she was sure when it came to the man opening the door.
Dominique: Taking her car was simple when he did it. Dominique was in the back of an ambulance with all the promise of being a fresh corpse at preventing it from happening. Now he was increasing his skill considerably. Appearances showed he was apparently aiming higher than vintage Ford and going for high end sports cars. She wondered what sad son of a ***** was bleeding in some dark alley for trying to keep what was theirs to begin with. His voice called out asking if she wanted to take it for a ride. Of all the cars she had the pleasure of riding in this one she could not claim as one of them. Her black brow shot up.
Dominique: Was it wrong that Doc had that car? Of course it was. It was also wrong she beat up gangsters, yanked out their diamond teeth and chased around blood thieves at one time for a relic that she could not afford that would save her from bouts of weakness. She was no saint before her last heartbeat or after and he sure as hell was no god worthy of praise. So, for the moment, it was time to either accept one of those once in a lifetime chances to feel the hum of that engine beneath her or take the being holier than thou route and pretend her invisible halo was only slightly bent. A pretty price would be paid for the vehicle in the right places.
“To town and back?” Horns kept that bent, broken and golden ***** of a halo up in the clouds out of sight.
Dominique: Dominique’s mind did the rationalizing to make it alright in her choosing to go with the moment. It wouldn’t be more than fifteen minutes tops? Her dark eyes scanned the exterior of the beauty as she stepped to the passenger side. She looked at him then at the empty seat. It took him longer than fifteen minutes each attempt he made to kill her. What could really happen other than she could say she felt the power of this car beneath her from her toes to the top of her dark head? Her bottom was in the seat and sinking back before she could play it safe and never be sorry again. The seat felt like a glove had just wrapped around her. It was questionable and she could feel the heat of that thought sink in deep.
Doc: Doc grinned openly as she accepted his offer. When she said ‘to town and back’, he had lifted a shoulder in what ‘might’ be perceived as a yes, but it was really an ambivalent way to ignore the question. After all Vancouver was a town right? He put the car into reverse and turned it around then headed out of the driveway back to the highway. At the end of the driveway he waited for a nice clean stretch of space before pulling out. The force of the acceleration pressed him back in the seat, as he let the engine wind out. As Harper Rock quickly came into view, he opted to take the bypass instead of going through the city. How could you possibly let a beast like be chained to a maximum city limit speed? Easy, you couldn’t; not if you really wanted to see what it could do, and he did.
Doc: In the space of five minutes the car ate up the road with aggressive glee, the whole of Harper Rock was an image in the rear view mirror while they were speeding west toward Vancouver. Dominique hadn’t really said anything, and he really didn’t know how to start a conversation, when it dawned on him. Doc had not let the staff at either business location know what was up. He needed to sort that right away. Yet another spur of the moment decision was made.
Pulling the cell, he hit ‘hands free’ and gave the verbal command, “Call Phoenix.”. The phone automatically dialed the number.
Phoenix: She eyed the phone as it rang and frowned at the caller ID. Why the **** would Doc call her? "Hello?"
Doc: "Phoenix.. I am going on a road trip.. I will be back in a week or so.. give or take.. you're in charge. Don't **** it up."
Phoenix: She blinked at the phone in her hand as if Doc had completely lost all sense. Yesterday, he wanted to fire her. Today, he was placing her in charge. "Understood. I'll take good care of it. Any specific instructions other than 'don't **** up'?"
Doc: "Yes.. that missing person case. Solve it. I don’t care if she's dead.. in jail.. or bag of bones.. get it solved."
Phoenix: "Got it. Will do! Thanks Doc - have fun and please don't die while you're away, yeah?"
Doc: "Right. " He disconnected and glanced at Dominique, and saw her look horror mixed with Disbelief, "What?" When he realized, "Oh.. didn't I say..?” He offered a sheepish grin as he turned his eyes back to the road. “We're going to Vancouver."
Phoenix: She blinked at the phone and set it down slowly. This was surely a trap.
Doc: Doc may come to regret this particular action, because it had been a spur of the moment idea. But was it kidnapping? Kidnapping was a ‘human’ offense. And she was his spawn. And.. all his well-thought-out plans had turned out bad or worse; why not give the spur of the moment road trip a chance? He had succeeded in getting her in the car, now he just had to get her talking. Something light hearted, so they could maybe … possibly... find some common ground. If all else failed, he could tome out and be back in Eyrie, leaving her the car.
Doc: However. Doc didn’t want it to end that way. He wanted … what -did- he want? He wanted to see her smile when she saw him. He didn't want to see that scowl of hate that usually graced her face when she laid eyes on him. The irony of the situation was not lost on him. he wanted her to at least enjoy his presence, when he had just kidnapped her. He offered her the phone, “You should call your sister.. so she doesn’t worry.”
Dominique: Dominique was sliding her hands down the outside of leather seat and feeling for all the options available at her fingertips. She bent over and reached deep under the seat where her body was increasingly being forced back as he showed no mercy on the speed limit. That is when she caught on to the exchange between Doc and some female responding. He was going to be gone to Vancouver for a week. She shrugged and sat back since soon her turn to take the wheel would be coming sooner than it would had he paid attention to the speed limit. He was going to Vancouver with some Phoenix woman. Why did it matter to her? He didn’t have to tell her where he was going with whom. Her face soured out of habit as looked at him and was about to ignore the whole thing except he now said she should call Kenlie. The wheels in her head that should have been working faster than they had up till that point finally moved double time and her sour expression bloomed into absolute shock as her jaw dropped.
“You wouldn’t dare.” Of course he wouldn’t.
Dominique: It would have been simple really to deal with. Simple that is if this happened before she returned and found clothes and stopped at the store to make sure the handy tome she had was gone from her possession. Why? It delivered her to those she had vowed to now protect with her absence. Now she would hike, drive or whatever means it took to get around but she would be without the ability to just go in the blink of an eye. Why the hell did she do that? Her scowl tightened as she looked at him with the offering hand holding his cell phone. He would dare. Did he have connections at the shop? He was high as a kite in a tornado if she was going to take his cell phone and call Kenlie to say that she was taking another unplanned ‘vacation’.
Dominique: “Yeah, because I really can explain this.” She hissed and took out her own cell phone and text out a quick message. Hopefully she would get it and take it as one of those taking some time to chill kind of messages.
Dominique: -Will be figuring some things out. Till I get back can you check in on the pets?- She sent the text off then decided she would not have to worry. Cars like this sucked up gas faster than he likely did virgin blood. She forced up a smile as if she trumped his move.
Dominique: “No worries. I can see you barely breaking the car as you toss me out of it when you are sick of my ***.” She stretched back and gripped her hands around the back of the headrest as if she just got far more comfortable than she should. “Got music?”
