The Fae and Other Such Lore

Post by Doc »

"--The following transcript was a live chat roleplay--"

Doc: Doc had a good handle on things. He knew where he was, and where he was going. He knew who he could trust and who he could not. But there one was one thing out of his grasp. The Fae and their Powers. As a human that had always been unsubstantiated. Unreal. But now, he had seen and heard of things that made the fae and their powers more and more real. How did he justify it in his head? He needed a better understanding of what Fae powers were, and what could happen if they were turned on vampirekind.

Doc: The only person he felt comfortable in asking for help was Zodiac. He could ask others. He knew this. But Zodiac spoke on a level that he understood. So many spoke about things ... and then when asked for details they obfuscated. That didn't buy him anything. Doc needed someone one that would call a spade a spade, and if they couldn't, would admit they couldn't.

Doc: Doc had seen the signs. Even if no one else saw and understood the signs, he did. Change was coming. And coming with a vengeance. Those that didn't have their arrangements in order would pay the price. His lips curled in derisive contemplation. Had the great flood of Noah's day been real? If it had, he could imagine the weight that must have been on Noah's shoulders. Because that was the weight on his. He saw the writing on the wall. He saw the inevitable as it was about to happen, even if Noah hadn't.

Doc: There was only one conclusion, humankind were .. WERE going to learn of vampire kind, and fear would rule. Fear for the human's lives. Fear of the unknown. Fear of seeing their children made slaves. Fear of seeing Humankind subjugated. Fear of the the end of humans. Was it a real fear? No. But that didn't matter. Because they feared it .. they would react to it. Fear was everyone's worst enemy.

Doc: He texted Zodiac *text* I need some education in the way of the Fae.

Zodiac: She sat within the confines of her pentacle carved into the floor of her private rooms. Levitating in the air while holding a lotus pose. Her eyes closed as her mind was open to possibilities and concepts beyond the norms of the world she dwelled in. The mystic had been doing this more and more in recent nights, as if something was softly tapping on the edges of her awareness demanding her attentions, yet so far away to be perceived clearly....

Zodiac: Her mentors of the past had warned her never to treat such things lightly, so she continued to open and reach outwards to find its source. So attuned she was beyond normal senses, that the girl 'sensed' the text coming to her before the phone sitting outside of her circle began to trill. Mentally she inspected the message and sent back a simple reply. *text* Yes. You do. When?

Doc: The reply was quicker than he had presumed. Zodiac was a busy woman, yet her response made him believe she would put off what she had planned for this. This made an impression all it's own. The fae were more than just the nuisance he he had been led to believe. The fae were apparently more important than most realized. This gave him pause, and yet at the same time, a feeling that he knew he had been right to contact her. *text* At your convenience, of course.

Zodiac: Her mind was already forming a reply when the text arrived. She was reluctant to step back into the real world. She always managed to reach a level of peace and balance when she meditated in this manner. She sent the man the address to where she was along with *text* the door will be unlocked. Ginny will lead you to where I am now.

Doc: Doc needed no second invitation. He proceeded to Zodiac’s address with all haste. It was as though he felt the hounds of hell were after him. After him to stop him from learning that vital secret that Vampirekind would need to know to survive. He didn’t want all Humans to die. He was fully willing to live in harmony with them, as long as they knew their place. And their place was ‘second’ in the food chain. He knew better than to voice that thought. Because the moment he voiced it aloud, he would be branded. It didn’t matter that it was the truth. He would be branded none-the-less. And made a martyr. Doc had no wish to be a martyr. He arrived at Zodiac’s address and was able to make entry. The feline Ginny curled around about his ankle then set off for her mistress.

Zodiac: The cat walked calmly, pausing occasionally to be sure the man was following behind. A turn to the right and the cat appeared to vanish into the very wall itself. On closer inspection one would discover a hidden entrance like most of their kind was able to make to hide things away if needed. ....

Zodiac: On the other side, a hidden private garden glowed softly under the moonlight. A small well groomed path led to the center where Zodiac still continued to levitate within her pentacle.

Doc: Doc had to smile as the feline would pause to ensure he followed. However that smile faded somewhat when the feline slid through an entrance, gate, something; that led to a garden that would be unknown from human eye.. and possibly vampire eyes. He slipped through the ‘gate’ and entered the area of tranquility. He felt at odds being here. The peace and tranquility here would only be wrecked by his presence. He saw her in a state of peaceful repose. “Zodiac..” It was all he dared speak lest he break the enchantment.

Zodiac: Her only movement was to hold up a single finger for patience. Her eyes opened as she stood up, still a foot above the floor, and began to glide about to the five points of her pentacle. Blessing and dismissing the spirits she had invoked before turning and looking at her guest properly. "Greetings Doctor."

Doc: Doc watched, and gave her the time her hand had silently requested. But once she spoke, he knew it was know or never. "Well **** Zodiac.. " He sighed, "You are leaps and bounds ahead of me. But you.. even you have to realize, that things are changing. Changing fast. If we are to have any hope of survival, the fae is the key."

Zodiac: Slowly she drifted down to where her toes caressed the floor at last, but never quite settled as if she was defying gravity with little to no effort. Ginny approached and began to rub about the girl's ankles as the Doctor began to speak. Curious now, his words. Something she had not expected a man of science to admit, let alone speak aloud. "I do not know a lot about them. Even the so called elders have conflicting views about them. The entity we knew as The Crow some felt was a Fae who was trying to help us keep a low profile to ensure our survival....

Zodiac: Of course, those idiots who think we can all just have our own version of Woodstock and vamps and humans will be all peace loving and brothers certainly screwed that up." She approached him now and offered him her hand. "But what I do know I will share with you. The other room is much more comfortable for guests than here."

Doc: Doc nodded solemnly, taking her hand and tucking it into the crook of his arm. "I get that. I do. But the Crow is gone now. And it wasn't due to the actions of vampires alone. Those that were in charge aren't that ******* smart. Granted one or two had the ability. But the majority are Sheep or megalomaniacs bent on self-glorification." He escorted her as she directed. "The Fae play a bigger part than most.. including myself, wanted to admit." He sighed. "I do not want us to pass away as a ******* footnote... of less."

Doc: Doc: She made the point he was headed for herself. "That is precisely the point I wanted you to see. There are so many ******* ****-for-brains vampires out there .. that we're ******* doomed if we aren't proactive. The masquerade needs protectors. There are very few protectors among us. The majority do not even care. They are more interested in 'what fashion is popular this week' or 'getting laid'. It's not their fault. Their average age is 21. Most 21 year olds are still kids. There is no maturity at age 21. They think they are.. but they have no real basis to judge it by. They haven't lived long enough to get that maturity. That's the majority.. then there are deviants. Like Pratt. Who exist under the illusion that human will accept vampire kind.. and try to out us at every turn.

Doc: Pratt and his ilk are like ******* cockroaches. They won't stay ******* dead. They are egotistical idiots that think because they 'believe' it .. it will be so. It doesn't matter that there are thousands of years of human history, that clearly shows humans fear what they do not know, and it lays out that humans will not be subjugated. It only takes one charismatic human leader to voice that vampires are bad.. and that they are out to steal the humans innocent young children, and there is war." He sighed. "So yes. I forcibly turned you.. because you're not stupid. You are tenacious. You think for yourself. All those add up to you being an asset. Which is much better than being cannon fodder for a group of young thug vampires wanting a paladin kill to notch on their coffin.

Zodiac: She listened to him as his situation came pouring out. It wasn’t hard to follow where he was going with all of this. It was nothing she herself had not considered many times before. “Pratt may be a fool, but the things he tries and protects also help make what he hopes for impossible, in my views.” She began slowly. “Crying foul when someone is put in the Shadow Realm for being a fool may be harsh, but should those individuals be allowed to bring attention down on the rest of us so we can all be judged by the examples they set? And what conclusions would the living gain of us from them? Creatures who feel themselves about the law? Killing cops and whoever with abandon? What would our response be? ‘Oh, don’t mind them, they just misunderstood’?” she shook her head sadly as she pointed to chairs in the main room and settled herself down across from the other chair. “I will not say Pratt’s vision of all of us being one is actually a bad thing, however, it is too soon and we cannot even deal with our own properly, let alone have humanity living breathing down our necks as well in the process. You were at some of those meetings. No one can agree on anything because we all too afraid one of us will suddenly be more powerful than the rest. We have the powers of demi gods at our command and the majority of us act like children fighting over a sandbox.”

Doc: “Precisely. They are too stuck in the elementary ****, ‘waa he hurt my feelings, she touched my toy’. It’s tried and true war strategy. Divide and conquer, that’s what happens in war. Hell Zodiac, we’re at war here, and they don’t even know it.” He shoved his hands into his pockets. “Blake manages to break an eternal bond. How would a person do that?”

Zodiac: “So many questions you have this evening, Doctor.” she allowed herself a smile. “But that’s a good thing. When we stop asking questions, we quit progressing. I have heard of some breaking the Binding, but honestly I am at a loss at how something supposedly ‘eternal’ can suddenly not be so eternal. As for the subject of Faes,” she stood up and went to one of her bookcases. “They have been part of mythology for as long as there have been vampire legends. I had never thought to consider the two were so connected together as they apparently are.” She flipped through a few pages searching for something.

Doc: He nodded. “I will confess, this is all new to me. Two years ago.. I found out vampires were real. I started hunting them. But then I met Pi.. who, as you know, put ‘paid’ to that experiment. And then I had a choice to make. Hate myself, or, take my position in this new life seriously. I chose the latter. I chose to be and understand what I had become. What it would mean for the future. The role I would have to take on, like it or not. There is so much about ‘us’ that I do not understand or even know. And then there is the Faes. It doesn’t take a genius to see that they are intertwined. They play a role. But for now, for me, that role is unassigned. I need to know where they fall. Are they for us or against us? Was the Fae how Blake broke his bond? If so, is it a positive or negative for us? And if negative, what could Blake have unleashed?” He paused, “You are more in touch with this than anyone else I trust.. I need answers.”

Zodiac: She laid a ribbon in the part of the book she had turned to and sat back down. “I do not know this Pi person personally at all. The only fact I have locked in my mind concerning her is this was the vampire who thought turning Robert Pratt was a good idea, so enough said there.” she looked at the Doctor apologetically before she continued.

“As for the Fae, what you suggest is very concerning. The Fae are tightly woven in human history as well. Lore has it at times they would deal with humans under the right conditions, so are they pro living, anti vampire, or something in between? And, if they were what allowed Blake to break his, so called, unbreakable bond, then I am even more concerned. This was something no vampire had the knowledge of how to do and yet they can do it? Suggests to me their powers are greater than ours if they can undo such a ritual so easily.” Her fingers tapped the cover of her book in slight agitation. “What else are they capable of? Considering they are invisible to our senses, able to attack us and harm us with ease, now able to break our magicks? Everyone avoids the woods to stay safe from them, but when I think like this I have to wonder what they are really doing out there. Busy little bees all plotting away.” she sighed.

Re: The Fae and Other Such Lore

"--The following transcript was a live chat roleplay--"

Doc: Doc grimaced, “Yes.. I think she ******* regrets that too.” He took no offence to her statement about his sire. “In her defence,” the irony, 18 months ago he wouldn’t have thought this, much less said it aloud, “Pratt is a manipulative ********. I wouldn’t have been surprised if she were taken in.”

As the conversation changed back to the Fae, his focus intensified. “That!” He pulled his hands out of his pockets and gestured in a pointed fashion. “That is what I worry about.” He sighs in a frustrated manner, “No one else seems to see this!” He paced, “I was asked by someone why I disliked Blake so ******* much… I tried to explain. Breaking an eternal bond…? That **** is not to be taking lightly. But bam! He did it. And we do not know how. And I am supposed to trust, that asshole knows what the **** he is doing? No. No! We do not know the repercussions that action makes! And the way he did it,.. it blindsided his ‘wife’. So she knew nothing about it. There are too many unknowns. But he managed to break an eternal vampire bond. That is some serious ****. For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction..so -there will has to be fall out-. But what is that ‘fall out’, and when will it happen? And how do we protect ourselves from it and the Fae?”

Zodiac: “I think the first thing to be discovered is if the Fae were actually involved and how did Blake find a way to make them do his bidding, They have no love for us as a norm, so if he did get their help, at what price?” She blinked and looked at her guest. “I am being a terrible hostess here. Would you care for a cup?” she offered as she stood up and walked/drifted to her kitchenette as she continued to ‘speak’ to him. “It appears I should make some time and have a chat with Mr. Blake. The last time we spoke, we was still on good terms. Actually him and I never had an issue before. He actually helped me get my second business off the ground, so perhaps he will be more receptive to questions from me.”

Doc: Doc snorted, “I can’t ******* drink anything but blood.. “ It still irked him that others could, and he couldn’t. “And yes.. if you could talk to Blake it would go a hell of a lot further than if I tried. He and I do not get along. I believe I have made it abundantly clear to him, that I find him without any redeeming merit, apart from the fact he can fire a gun at a masq breaker. So for now, I will keep my distance from him.” He glared at nothing in particular. “You know the really galling thing about him.. I told his wife to ******* forgive him. Give him a chance. Then the ******* asshole breaks an eternal bond.”

Zodiac: She listened as she pulled the heated bloodpack from the kettle and snipped the end open. She poured into two cups that sat waiting, then returned to where the Doctor sat. “Trust me, Doctor Nilson, I have the same issues as you do when it comes to food and drink. Trust me, you will find this palatable.” She handed him one of the cups and settled back into her chair.

“I do not know who Blake’s ‘wife’ was to even comment there. What you are telling me does not quite fit the person as he was when I met him. But all of us are in states of flux since being turned so perhaps he has changed. Pity. Every person I have done the bond for I have warned them such a thing was beyond my power to undo. Do any of us even understand the concept of ‘eternal’ properly to make such a choice? Some of us do I imagine. The elders among us perhaps, but the rest of us?” she shook her head.

Doc: Doc accepted the cup, sniffed it suspiciously. It wasn’t because he didn’t trust her, but once you have ingested something and have the violent after-effects he had… well you don’t take chances. He took the lightest sip possible, then relaxed as he recognized the taste. He took a bigger pull, and said in an aside type of voice, as though it wasn’t that important to the discussion. “Oh.. his wife? Zoey Jane..” He took another drink, “Trust me, I warned her hard.. ******* hard, not to do it. Thirty minutes before the ceremony.. I told her it wasn’t too late. She was adamant. But Blake has two faces. Too many people I trust, have witnessed it first hand.. and now I have. Be careful around him Zodiac. Don’t be sucked in by him.”

Zodiac: “My relationship with Blake was always business in nature. I could not tell you much about him beyond that.” she admitted. “Zoey? You mean Micha’s child? She married him? How bizarre is that. She did not strike me as the marrying kind, and no-that is not a slur or insult on her at all. I just didn’t get that vibe from her is all.” She took a sip and daubed the corners of her mouth. “Curiously enough, I had started a reading for her she requested of me once. If I had know she was considering something like this I would have ignored the no hurry she assured me of as far as getting it finished. It probably would have helped her.”

Doc: Doc nodded, “Yea Micah’s spawn. She’s a good kid.. but Blake suckered her good. Three months. She meets him, she binds to him.. and he breaks that bond, all done in three ******* months. What does that tell you? Tells me he had a plan. He put it in motion. And when he got where he needed to be .. he cut line and left her out to dry.” He looked at Zodiac. “Does that sound like anything.. a halfway feeling type of person would do? ****, I am as cold hearted a ******** as you might want to meet.. and even I wouldn’t do that ****.” He finished his drink, and sat the cup down. “Might help Zoey, if you could talk to her.. maybe? There aren’t that many females she can turn to that would know what to tell her.”

Zodiac: It was hard to deny the possibilities he was suggesting, so she didn’t even try. She knew she needed the other side of this story, the part Blake had, before she could say anything. Also, what was the most important thing to be learned here? That Blake (possibly) just used Zoey or that Blake had (quite possibly) found his way into dealing with the Fae and how did he manage it.

“I cannot say if I would be the best one to speak with her.” she finally answered the Doctor. “When I was in Ty, the two of us hardly spoke at all, so its not like we are friends or anything like that. The night I insulted her sire to make a point, she was ready to kill me and so were the rest of them. Trust me, did not generate the warm, safe feeling one would expect.” she laughed nervously. “But I will seek out Mr. Blake to begin with and see if he will tell me how he managed the breaking of the binding. In my view of what you have said so far, the issue of fae involvement or the possibility we have been sold out to the ‘enemy’ is the more vital issue to solve first I think. I will speak with her if you truly wish me to, but she is not the priority issue as I see things now.”

Doc: Doc pressed his lips together and nodded. He knew Zoey needed someone to confide in; normally that would have been Cat. But she had been angry and anti-social of late. For all he knew she and Zoey had a falling out.. that could be the reason for her attitude. However that was not the case at hand. “You are right, she isn’t. She just happens to be collateral damage.” He quickly returned to his thought to the matter at hand. “Good luck. I think he will be cagey and not tell you ****. But if he does.. good. Then we only have to worry about whether he is ******* lying to you or not. Quite honestly, I think the man lies as easy as he can blink.”

Zodiac: “That is a trait many of the night children seem to have in common I think. But you are right, I can only try. The idea of interacting with the fae beyond forcing the demi ones to our wills for rituals is a fascinating idea to me personally. As I mentioned earlier, there are tales of mortals striking bargains with them and I was taught to pay where legend told they still might dwell in this world respect. Leaving offerings to them in hopes of appeasing them. There is also historically ways to protect oneself from them too.” she rambled a bit now.

Doc: He nodded, “True.. but I can usually tell a ******* liar when I hear one. Him.. he’s good.” He paused as she explained about the legends, “Where would I find these legends? I have always felt that there was some truth to legends.. they had to start somewhere from a grain of truth, an event witnessed and retold by many, twisted along way yes. But at the heart.. something happened. And now that I know .. vampires are real.. that just gives legends that much more emphasis. But I need to read up on them. And even if you don’t have the books, the names of the legends would be a good start.”

Zodiac: “I do have some books you could go through, but I would warn you they are somewhat tedious to work your way through. Separating the fanciful and finding the bits that ring common with other tales. I also have journals my Nana wrote her own observations in and I would be happy to copy those pages from them, but understand I am quite reluctant to let those tomes out of my care. They are all I have left of her and are quite irreplaceable.” Zodiac pulled a notepad from her pocket and make a few notes. “I will have them brought to you when I have the chance to assemble them with certain entries marked to help you. Perhaps a view point such as yours may see things I have missed in the process.”

Doc: He nodded, “Copies would work just fine. And your Nana’s journals would be the best place to start I think.. “ He pondered, “Which lore do ‘you’ think best suits our situation? Given the fact that there is vampire lore.. but let’s discount that one. Too many untruths to start there. So in my way of thinking, if there were lore about vampires, from vampires, they would couch it in other terms. Give themselves another name, other than vampire; that is..if I were to write or tell that tale. I would have to change the names. But if there are some lores that are similar to us.. then it stands to reason their enemies would be as well. And maybe.. there is a clue hidden amongst the tale?”

Zodiac: “I must say, visiting with you is never boring, Doctor.” she smiled. “As a man of science yet you now see things differently. Most found me amusing in my views because I was raised and taught these things were possible. When I discovered vampires here, it was a surprise, but not an unexpected one. So since there is vampires and faes and zombies and other things that go bump in the night it makes me wonder what else is waiting out there to be found again. As far as vampire lore, the weight of it all is staggering. So many cultures discussed beings very similar to the myths Hollywood has glorified, yet some elements seem undeniable when compared with the ‘real thing’. Rather than send you half of my library I will try to narrow down the search a bit first.” she offered. “I will start with the journals and then move onwards. Will take you a bit to digest what I will send you. It is not in scientific terms but rather terms of one who experienced this things from what I would call a ‘paranormal reality’ view. Some things my Nana wrote of may confuse you a bit, but I will include a dictionary of terms to help you along.”

Doc: Nodding he gave her an appreciative smile. “I thank you, Zodiac. I might have been a man of science, and I still consider myself one, but there is more to science than I was ever taught. Only a fool would shut his eyes to what he has seen and knows to be true. There is a tie back to science. There has to be. We just haven’t discovered it yet. I have seen how rituals work. I don't understand it. But there is a method to it. An algorithm of some sort. How it relates back to science, I do not know. But it is there. It has to be.” He straighten and nodded his head briefly toward her. ‘“I appreciate your time and your willingness to allow me to interrupt without an appointment. I have kept you long enough this evening. I will look forward to receiving those copies.”

Zodiac: “And thank you for not laughing at me. Too many have in the past. I think you would have enjoyed having this discussion with my grandmother. When I was learning from her, she told me ‘What men call the Supernatural is simply science that ‘real’ science hasn’t figured out yet. Or, perhaps its a science real science does not WANT to figure out’. But a spell is very similar to a scientific procedure if you think about it A cause, and effect, and the process that leads from one to the other.” She offered him her hand again when she saw he was ready to leave. “I miss these conversations, Doctor. You used to come by more often than now, and I have less flowers appearing on my desk at work.” she smiled teasingly at him.

Doc: Doc grinned, “Time and unforeseen occurrence befall us all my dear Zodiac. I will make an effort not to be so lax in my attendance.” He took her proffered hand, raised it and turned it over to place a kiss on the inside of her wrist. “Until we speak again, be safe.” He released her hand, and took his leave. He felt more at ease after spoken to her, yet, it raised so many more questions than he had before. He needed to go to the office and think.

Zodiac: She nodded as he left. She floated for a few moments taking in all that had been said. The gypsy reached out with her thoughts to her assistant and dictated a list of books she wished to have waiting for her when she arrived later this evening. She would be indisposed for awhile with other matters elsewhere.

She also asked Jennifer to look up the contact information they had on file for Mr. Blake.
