Genesis Solutions: A Journal of Jobs

Post by Doc »

--The following transcript was a live chat roleplay--

Doc: Nichole Aguilar answered the phone, “Genesis Solutions, You rape ‘em, We scrape ‘em.” She received a dirty look from Jane Lord in IT security. “Sorry, just kidding, How can we help you today?” She listened “A plant killing solution? You mean like a spray? um.. hold please.” She put the caller on hold.

“Hey Doc.. Do we do weed killing?”

Doc sighed, “What the **** do you think?” He stopped. He looked at his watch. “What line?”

Nichole held up two fingers. She still hadn’t figured her boss out. She looked at Jane and mouthed ‘Weeds? Really?’ Jane shrugged and whispered back “I am off in 15 minutes, I am not spraying weed killer on my Friday night!”

Doc: Doc picked up the call, “Yes, this is Nilson. What kind of weed?” He listened, “Nightshade? How big an area?” he nodded as the caller explained on the other end of the phone. “And you need it by… when?” More silence. Doc nodded and made noncommittal noises now and again. “No.. no that is a regulated pesticide. You are in a residential neighborhood. Three months at least to get the paperwork sorted.. if.. IF we get it approved.” He said dryly, as though he were an expert on the matter. He listened more, the voice on the end sounded agitated. “Your wedding is in two weeks, and you are just 'now' looking into laying sod? Dude you are screwed.” The voice on the other end was noticeably louder. “Yes.. yes.. We have the solutions for all sorts of problems. We.. can do it.. it will cost you though.”

Jacqueline and shaking her head no, in a vehement fashion. Doc is nodding at her smiling. Jacqueline was mouthing “NO!” Doc scribbled a phone number, mouthing back “Call her.” She snatched the number out of his hand sullenly, muttering to herself. “I am not spraying any god damn weed killer.. I am an IT professional god damn it!” Louder “Hold for Doc Nilson Please…” She shoved the phone at him.

Doc: Doc put his other caller on hold, and answered the other call, “Dutch.. we’re supposed have a session.. you bailed. But. You can make it up to me. There is this house.. Need a show of force so to speak.. I can’t do it.. previous engagement. They will pay us five grand, to patrol his yard. And take care of any .. ne’er do wells that show up.”

Jacqueline frowned and looked at Jane, who shrugged and threw her hands up like, ‘don’t drag me into it’.

Dulce Periculum: Dulce winced at the thought it was Doc's voice on the other end of the call and he was yet again going on about missing a 'session.' He was higher than the Goodyear blimp if he really thought anything he attempted would bring out any increased sensitivity in her. She was fine. More than fine. She was cool as a cucumber in the ice box with her general disposition. It was not her fault some didn't get it. She was not going to explain it to them either. She didn't own a box of tissues and was not planning on it. She was a vampire. A killer at heart. As Doc's voice went on she nudged her right hand on her desk to gain the space to allow her tall form to rise to full height beside her desk in her office. A house? What the hell was he up to now? He couldn't do it. When did he start delegating his engagements to her for dealing with? He and she had to have a chat. this she was sure of as she leaned back to rest her backside on the corner of her desk and wait till he finished telling her what she was going to do. Patrol a yard? She was sure she didn't hear him correctly. "Excuse me?" Now her body was erect and her feet moving towards the front of the desk so she could see if Sada was visible on the security monitor at her desk in the next office. "I thought I heard you say patrol a yard."

Doc: The clock chimed 5:00 pm and the girls looked at him expectantly, Jane already had her keys in her hand and purse on her shoulder. Doc waved them out. They both needed no second bidding, the bolted for the exit.

Doc then turned his attention to Dutch, “Just need someone to hang out for a while between midnight and 2:00am. Someone I trust. The guy is getting married. And apparently the ex-boyfriend has been harassing him. So if you could patrol the yard.. you know.. walk a perimeter, maybe walk a grid pattern,.. act like you are looking for something in the yard. And then when the little prick shows up, beat the **** out of him. Five Grand. Eighty percent for you.. small twenty percent finder fee for me. What do you say?”

Dulce Periculum: Her jaw tightened and her icy blues spotted no sign of Sada yet. So much for delegating this on to her personal assistant and rather effective human side kick. A sigh escaped her full lips and she looked at her desk clock. "Do you have an ID on this prick? There are a lot of pricks in the city, Doc. Surely you have not forgotten." She would do it this one time because Doc was Ty and because he asked. It sounded important to him and she knew eventually she would cash back in on the favor. Doc had his own issues but he would be good on returning the favor. "Keep the money. You owe me a favor and call it good. Need address and ID." She closed up her desk and her computer screen went black as she left the office.

Doc: ‘****’ he would need to send her an ID. He would send her Dr. Jervas ID, the guy was a prick anyway. And if Jervas made the mistake to be in that neighborhood.. Doc grinned. “I will send in you the ID as soon as I hang up. And Dutch,” He paused, “You’re getting paid. You’re helping me out of a bind. Thank you.” He disconnected and immediately sent her the address and Jervas ID.

He picked up the other line. “You’re in luck. My best person is free, between midnight and two am. Needless to say.. you will pay on time or your wedding will be forfeit.” He listened. “******* dead. A necromancer couldn’t bring it back to life..” He sighed, “Sorry movie reference.. trust me dead as a ******* doornail. Will be ready for your sod team to rip it up. I will expect payment first thing Monday morning.”

Dulce Periculum: Dulce was not waiting long when the ID came through as she asked and the address. She paused her steps and gave the face she was looking at a little more consideration. He looked like a professional prick. A stiff suited one. Her lips went into as much of a flat line as they could. Her eyes rolled and the phone went into her pocket of her suit jacket. She looked down at the light grey business suit. She would change. Disappearing into the elevator she was on her way to change and sort out the last of business before making her way to patrol god only knew what for two hours.

====

Doc: The next evening as Doc awoke, he checked his phone for messages. He did have a rather excited groom blathering on in a deliriously happy fashion. Apparently the sod people ran tests on the soil after they tore up the dead nightshade, and they couldn’t a hint of weed killer. The job progressed cleanly. But there was no message from Dutch. He decided he better check in on her. He let the phone ring.

Dulce Periculum: The cell took her attention from the lobby she was currently navigating her way through. Eyes glanced her way but her own met each with a chilling dismissive look. She was not interested in the hello or the second glance. the walk around the property had been rather boring and completely uneventful. She saw nothing but dirt and weeds. Her disappointment in the the prick not showing up to give her something to do was short lived. When two hours was up she was out and gone. Her thumb slid across the screen and she stepped into the stair well for a run up several flights of stairs to check on something. "It's done. Your prick of concern didn't appear."

Doc: “Really?” Doc grinned, but then sounded concerned, “Wonder if something tipped him off?” He quickly acted as though it didn’t matter. “Doesn’t matter.. Dude felt safe, and it was thanks to you Dutch. I will have a draft deposited into your account. You really came through for me Dutch. Thank you.”

Dulce Periculum: She listened to Doc go on with all the thanks and pleasantries. She pulled the phone away from her ear and looked at the screen.Doc was up to something. "You are owing me a favor when the time comes. Keep the money. If you are up to something and I find out it will be two shots to your hide. I am not going to be signing up for prick patrol. If that is what is needed then tell them to get a security dog or an off duty officer." She began the climb upward clearing the flights of stairs leaving a blur of black and red for any human eye that was fast enough to catch her passing through.

Doc: Doc grinned crookedly, “Fair enough.. No more prick patrol.” he would just have to think up some other suitable excuse, if he got another call. Which he figured he would. Pesticide free weed killing.. in this day and age of organic this .. and organic that.. Dutch’s curse was a money making dream come true. “I will let you go Dutch.. See ya at the next hunt.. “

Dulce Periculum: She pressed the button to end the call and filed her cell back in pocket. Her feet reached the floor she was looking for and she pulled the door open and stepped into the decorated hall. "He is up to something." She muttered as she took a second to make sure she tucked the cell deep enough. Last thing she needed was to lose her phone if things got out of hand.
