New to town (Mora, open)

Post by Will (DELETED 5374) »

William or Will as he liked to be called dragged his bag out of the airport. Harper Rock City, from what he could tell from the newspapers, high crime, the Canadian Military everywhere about city, blocking things off because it was 'dangerous' fact one section of the city had apparently been blocked now for two or three years. There was tons of reasons 'why' it was some were just far fetch, some weren't that unbelievable. He partied, he grew up rich, he got into a lot of fights, he knew what happened when meth houses blew up and with the crime rates in this city, cops shooting first and asking later (odd for a Canadian City) it was pretty damn clear to him it was drug related that caused the block off that was still going on years later.

“Just hope she wasn't in that area” course he had no idea where his ex-wife Rebecca or as she had liked to be called when they were still young and married, Becca but he knew one thing. She walked out of his life one night, taken their then six year old daughter with her. Three days later, divorce papers were in the mail. He would of fought for his daughter, he would of won, his family had those kind of lawyers but she just disappeared. The papers were sent and she was gone, it had been a little over a year since he last saw his daughter Juliet his little Jewels.

Taken a deep breath he tried to clear his mind from the foggy air, for some reason, this city was mostly cloudy, like some screwed up Twilight (Becca had been a huge fan) movie scene. He moan slightly at the thought that he was somehow, the teenage girl whose name he couldn't remember. “Just let me end up as a wolf instead of a damn sparkling vampire” course if Jewels still liked sparkling objects, it might be better if he did sparkle for his little girl. Hell he would do just about anything for her.

Will ran a hand across his face, he needed to get something to eat, find a place to sleep, get a job. He didn't want to stay here that long but Harper Rock City wasn't exactly a small town and the only thing his father could tell him was that she had remarried... and then disappeared. He had a clue though, Broussard. No surprise really, Becca liked money, she liked danger... and he had turned his family's wealth away, he had become a music teacher in a private elementary school.

She didn't seem to mind at first. Maybe because Jewels was still so little but then, things began to change. She didn't want to be home, she wanted to go out and enjoy her youth, not that he blamed Becca, she had been 18, he had been 20... neither one of them had really been ready, the marriage was rushed, to make sure he didn't look bad to his family name.

Neither one of them really knew what they were doing, he was going to go into his father's business that had always been the plan really. Then, he took a look at Jewels the day she was born, and he knew, he knew he had to do better. He screwed up of course, failed at times, blamed himself, his mom was great, encouraged him to go back to school. Becca, dropped out, she figured wealthy family, easy life, and that had been the case for awhile. Big house, maids, a butler. Day care.

That was what changed his life, his daughter was just 19 months old when she got to join the 'older kids' children. She didn't need to be with the newborns anymore, she was more active. He was being shown around when it hit him. He actually liked what he was seeing, not only liked it but wanted to take part in it. He watched his daughter play on the child's keyboard, and he knew, he just knew he wanted to teach children to enjoy music. He never thought of such a thing before that moment. He changed his major, changing his business into a minor. He went into education for music.

Will's father had been so mad, he would of disowned him he was sure, but he was the only child that his parents had. So of course that was out of the question, he was threaten to be cut, he didn't care, he turned his back on all that money, moved his family out of the fancy home, lived on a budge and with his mom's help (not wanting to make their family look bad) he was able to get through school, and most of all keep his family comfortable until he was able to get his first job as a teacher. 8-10 year olds, he enjoyed it, and then, fraud... the school wasn't using the funds, donations, and grants the way they were suppose too. Everyone lost their jobs.

Not that his wife had been around when that happened. That month... was worse. No job, no wife, and the center of his life missing. He went back home to his parents, his father and mother began to hire people to search for their missing grandchild, he went to work for his father while he waited.

Lead after lead, he began to think his ex-wife and daughter were dead when they got this lead. This lead wasn't to old, wasn't to cold at all. The only thing was, his daughter was missing. There was no sight of her and even so, it wasn't that new either. Months old actually but still, the best lead they had, she was actually seen, but how far up in the family he had no idea. Heck could had been nothing more than some cousin, his father gave a huge list of names, the family was far from small. And apparently the marriage hadn't been properly filed either, it had 'gotten lost', so there was a huge chance that it was all fake... the guys name gave no hint really, the name was so hard to read he was lucky to know the last name (and only cause his ex-wife signed it that way)

Will stomach growled and he shook his head as he saw a burger joint, “Might as well start here” he said opening the door, he order a burger supreme, curly fries, and a coffee. Reaching in to pay he turned. “****” he apologized before scanning the floor, he couldn't believe it, he had dropped his wallet. The last photo of his little girl and him were in there, a copy of a news clipping of her birth, one of her very first baby pictures... his heart sank. He opened his bag, praying it was inside. “Please, God... Please” money could be replaced, credit cards could be replaced, id's and passports, but those photos, some of those could not be replaced...

White wings beat against the sky, high above Harper Rock. The white dove circled the skies enjoying the breeze on it’s feathers. The bird had no path in mind, just anywhere. Harper Rock was a large place to large a place to walk. You’d spend hours walking from one side to the other, instead flying was much stylish, it allowed Mora to clear her head. She began to plummet then, her eyes open the wind caressing her pure, white feathers. She landed on her small webbed feet in a nearby alley, next to a burger joint. She didn’t know the name it was odd that she was hungry. She craved human food, though she would never be able to eat human food again. She could watch others eat though, that wasn’t creepy. Was it?

Her body began to shimmer, and vibrate and she transformed from the white dove she was to her normal physique. She exhaled, the transformation always made her slightly tired. She could feel it in her bones. She exited the alleyway slowly and pushed her hands through the golden mane of hair that was atop her head. She brushed down her black faded jeans and straightened her white shirt which hid a spot of blood on the inside of her collar, which she had gotten from a previous head wound that a very naughty demi-fae had given her.

Once she was sure her looks were quite normal she walked into the burger place and stood in the line. She had no intention of eating the food, perhaps looking at it would ease her hunger. She could pretend she was eating it, allow her enhanced senses to think she was eating it. The more she thought about it the crazier it seemed to her. She had eternity to do a million and one things and she was here, willing to stare at a burger and some fries. She shook in disbelief at herself; only then her eyes caught a gentleman at the front of the line.

He seemed distressed; you could see it In his features. Mora automatically felt sympathy. He seemed to have forgotten, or lost his wallet. She moved from her place and headed to the counter and handed the clerk a green bill, enough to pay for the food he had ordered. Mora was feeling generous.

“That should cover it.” She said as she smiled at the man, as he grappled through his things. He seemed extremely distressed at losing his wallet she canted her head to the side and watched him curiously.

Will couldn't believe it of all the things he was ready to deal with even do for this trip. His wallet getting lost in a crime filled city like this one broke him all over inside. His eyes turned towards the woman who seemed to appear out of no where. Hope that she seen his wallet with the pictures of his daughter began to fill him and as she paid for his meal his heart sank.

He knew he should be happy, pleased and even thankful for the kindness of this woman but instead he turned back to his bag. Yes Will thought he had other photos, he had cards and drawing and hand and foot prints. A room in his father's home frozen in time with her things. Still the single thought he refused to think but haunted him of his little girl dead. Out of his reach forever caused him to keep searching.

Will had to back track he grabbed a pen and a piece of paper from his bag, "Thanks. If you give me your address or any address with a name I will pay you back." His eyes trailed he knew he should eat but instead he was going to search for his wallet. He had to look his eyes moved towards the woman he wasn't really looking at her though. "Do not mean to come off as rude just I have something important to find before it really ends up lost." He held it out to her, "If you would be so kind." He was being to formal to like his mom when she was hosting or maybe even his dad pretending to be a happily sexual couple with a wife all for show. Still he knew he must repay her. Maxwell's don't do debts.

”If I wanted for you to repay me, I would have said ‘llets start a tab’ but I didn’t.” She smiled. “No need to pay me back, it was only $12.30 – that’s nothing when you own two businesses here in Harper Rock.” She relaxed a little then, her smile never fading from her features watching as he goes back to rummaging through his bag for something – his wallet she presumes considering she just paid for his meal.

She eyes him curiously, scratching at her chin idly. “Eat.” She told him. “Then search for your wallet, you’ll probably find it in that bag of yours on a fully belly.” She could always watch him eat? Save her the oddity of buying her own food and not eating a single bite. She could be concerned for the human, she eyed him – trying to see if he had any paladin shaped tattoos but she didn’t have a clear view. She gave up, maybe he was just a random human passing through Harper Rock. Most humans that walk around the streets at night, get turned, killed or fed off. Harper Rock was not safe for those who were not touched by the supernatural aura around these parts.

“When did you lose it?” She asked curiously. Referring to his wallet as she pointed to a nearby so he could sit down, eat and gather himself. Which is what he needed to do. Mora found herself looking at the man, canting her head. She pulled out her phone and sent a text to Olive simply saying. “I’m going to be late. C U in a bit.” She was on her way to give her some tinkering toys she loved to play with. – she was a crafter – and whenever she came across things that could be moulded and bent, and crafted into traps or various other things she’d give them to her firecracker.

Will stared at her for what felt like ages, not exactly sure what to make of being told he should eat the food she bought for him. Everything in his upbringing told him he had two choices really, obey because it would be rude to make the family name look bad, or shove the tray in the trash and leave. His eyes turned towards the man, “can I get it to go” he wouldn't be able to heat it up but he could eat and search. Yet his drink would have to stay behind, there was no way for him to carry his stuff, eat and search at the same time. Putting the pen and paper back in the bag he got it out from.

Will turned back to the woman before him and tried to smile but it didn't reach his eyes, “I don't know off had, had it when I was in the airport.” His attention towards back to the guy with his food now in a bag and took it, “Got no choice but to walk the way I came and hope no one grabbed it on me. There...” he knew better than to tell to much but still some was better than none, “It has pictures of my daughter. She's missing.” Alright he wasn't exactly sure if she was missing but she was missing out of his life, and no one had seen her in over a year from all the reports he had been given.

“So is my ex-wife... the last known location was here... well her location was here. There wasn't any report of my daughter. So you see it's really important I find that wallet. I don't care about having to replace the credit cards, or the money, but the things inside of it, the things dealing with my daughter can't be replaced.” he didn't want to point out that as time was passing by he was loosing all hope of ever seeing her again. Still he knew that sometimes people would be kind and return things if they knew a bit more about why it was important to have he could only hope that would be the case if someone found it and had ended up here.

Shaking his head Will looked back at her, “Thanks for the meal. I owe you.” he had to go now, time of someone else getting a hold of that wallet was just to high as time was ticking away. He shifted his bags as he pop open the bag and pulled out a fry and pop it into his mouth. He knew better than to chew and eat so he gave a nod of his head out of the burger joint. His eyes scanning the ground as he walked outside.

Pictures. Daughter. Ex wife.

Such an oddity but if his wallet contained such things that were dear to him then she could understand his frustration. If she was in his position and lost a picture of someone important to her, she’d be kicking and screaming – maybe even tearing down the whole of Harper Rock looking for the damn thing. She nodded her head, sympathising him as he turned to the clerk and asked for the food to go, the person on the other side of the counter boxed his food and handed him a bag to carry.

“I understand.” She said, her reply was quiet, hushed by the crowd of angry customers that were in line and being held up by this gentleman’s frantic search for his wallet. He seemed sad, and she waved her hand to the crowd as he left the joint with the bag in tow. Mora deliberated for a moment, did she want to follow him and potentially help the man find this missing photo of his daughter or did she want to sit here and look at food that she could not eat – no matter how creepy it seemed. She turned on her heel and walked out the door and followed the male.

She’d help him, it beat doing anything this night – she had no plans, apart from lame ones and anyone else she knew was busy doing other things. “Need a hand?” She asked, as she took large strides in her step to catch up to the man to eventually walk by his side. She didn’t smile, simply looked curious.

Will stared at the ground as he popped fry after fry into his mouth with his free hand. Hoping to catch sight of his wallet. So far he wasn't having much luck at all in finding it. He cleaned his hand on his pant leg before shifting the bag to his other hand as he stopped for a second to lift up a empty box, in the off chance that the wallet had perhaps fallen and the box had magically fell over it. No luck. He sighed, kicking the box in frustration as he moved on.

Footsteps were following him but he didn't bother to see who they belonged too, big city it could belong to anyone and a city that was dangerous with a high crime rate, “What was she thinking bringing our daughter here?” he growled under his breath. “This is not a place to race a child, not my child” he kicked another piece of trash that was laying on the ground .

He paused in his self rant to his ex-wife at the sound of her voice, it seriously couldn't had been the lady from the burger joint but when he turned to look, it was. His mouth would of hung open but he knew better than to do that. “You... you are going to help me search for my wallet?” he sounded like a moron (which he had been told by more than a few women in his lifetime he was but that was years ago, before his daughter). He ran a hand across his head for a moment, “Yeah... yeah I could use some help.” he really could and he knew it. Two set of eyes were better than one set of eyes.

“It's a dark brown. Made from crocodile skin. Yeah it's real...” he knew some people would have issues with it but it had been a gift from his grandfather and well you didn't turn anything down from that man. More so something that was apparently handmade. Hopefully she wouldn't go on a lecture about how it was wrong to kill animals for crap. He owned a lot of leather and well, he wasn't about to bring up the fact his dad (and his dad's best friend) owned a hunting lodge... a couple of them for that matter. Besides he was big on fishing it was just something that he found really relaxing, even if meant 'killing' the fish. Which he did, seeing as he always brought the fish open to be cooked... not that he could cook (unless you counted grill cheese or mac and cheese real food).

“Shouldn't be to hard to see... I mean it's crocodile skin so it's going to have different tones to the leather as well..” then again how many people in this city would own a wallet made out of crocodile skin? Couldn't be to many. “Ah... I didn't catch your name... I mean you bought me food, helping me look for my wallet” he said as he walked. “Mine's William... Will for short. William is my granddad if you ask me, My dad goes by Bill.” He sighed knowing he was talking to much but he really didn't want someone given him so nickname just because they didn't want to call him Will, some people have tried calling him Liam, or Billy (because of his dad) some had thought to call him Willie (only his mom was allowed to get away with it) when he said Will. He used to get into a lot of fights about it. Not his fault because his family wanted to honor her grandfather, hell he had two cousins named William after his grandfather too. William Charles Maxwell, and William Louis Hall. Like there wasn't enough Williams in the family. His aunt already having named her son William, name her second born son Thomas William Hall.

“Yes I’m going to help you look for your wallet; it’s a nice thing to do. Besides, you seem like a nice man.” She didn’t know for sure if he was a nice man. She did get the vibe from him that he was a nice man, lost without his wallet, but he seemed nice all the same. “Do you know where you had it last? I know this place. Quite well.” She said as she took in the night air looking around the street before Crocodile skin, he described. As she nodded taking in a mental note of his recollection of the wallet. She began to look down at the ground, swerving from William’s side she moved to a nearby trashcan and checked the area, around the bin bags.

“I wonder where it is.” She said, whispering these words to herself as he spoke again, introducing himself as William, or Will for short. She smiled at him, nodding her head in introduction. “It’s nice to meet you Will, I am Mora. Morghan Daradasi, really but most people just call me Mora.” She said – she always introduced herself with her bloodline name. It seemed normal to her. She forgot in that split moment that this person beside her was human. It took her a moment to inhale his scent. To remember that he was human, and he did not know the terrors of this place.

“How long have you been in Harper Rock?” She asked. She hadn’t seen him before – before this night. Humans did sometimes end up in Harper Rock for silly reasons and then end up dead, or in the hospital with a gaping wound in their neck. She seemed fearful for this man even if he had lost his wallet with the photo of his precious daughter in it. She wanted to help.

Will was slightly taken back by being called a 'nice' person. Most people wouldn't actually look at him and think nice, or at least he didn't think they would. He could only think about the one time one of his Wife's family members came to the house. The man had been a little older than he was, but Will knew right away he didn't want the man alone with his daughter, fact he didn't want the man alone anywhere in the house. Something had been off about him. “I'm not that nice of a guy...” no fact he had been in a great deal of trouble when he was younger, before Jewels was born. “But things in life, they make you think twice. Give you that chance to become a better person.” This woman was pretty kindhearted, he could only figure he worked with people, maybe in a Church, or Hospital, maybe even in a school with kids, there was even a chance she worked with people with disabilities, he wasn't sure. He did know, that those people who worked in such a field tended to be the nicest people.

When she told him his name he smiled, “It's nice to meet you Mora” he said putting the hamburger which he knew would taste okay warmed up in his bag, before tossing his trash away. “Have to say you have an interesting last name. Must of been hard trying to spell it as a kid.” he knew sometimes kids had a hard time learning how to spell their last names when it sounded difficult or was long. There was also the fact that if kids went by a nickname, and you tried to teach them how to spell the full first name, it tended to cause a lot of issues. They sometimes would say that wasn't their name... he had been one of those kind of kids. Will was his name, when they tried to tell him to write out William he had thrown a fit, saying over and over again that was his Grandpa's name not his. Still he had to write it out.

“As for the wallet, the last time I remember having it, was in the airport...” he trailed off, could he had missed putting it in his pocket and just thought he had? No he was pretty sure he had felt it there... so maybe someone had pickpocket him and took it? Couldn't they just taken the cash and left the wallet? He searched other side as Mora focused on one end, kicking up trash that was on the ground, looking behind things. “I didn't make any stops until the burger joint... I've only been here for and hour or so.” he said looking at his watch, “A little over an hour actually.”

No luck where he was searching he moved a little further ahead, “I take it you grew up here seeing as you know the place pretty well?” he had to admit he hadn't plan to spend the first few hours in this city searching for his wallet. Still it was nice to have some company and he did so.

She waved her hand as he began to tell her he wasn’t really that nice of a guy – she cut him off, refusing to believe such mumbo jumbo. He seemed nice enough to her. He didn’t chuck the food she bought him in her face, didn’t refuse her help. Right now he was in her ‘nice’ category no matter how much he thought differently of it. Then he spoke again, saying how life makes you think twice sometimes and she nodded her head, relating. It’s true. She used to be so odd when she was human, a drunken mother she had to take care of. She had run away to Harper Rock to get away from her – to be her own person. Independence. Something she never had the opportunity to experience as a child. Not until she came to Harper Rock, and she was working – no, no she was turned and her life turned upside down. She had learnt a lot, becoming a vampire perhaps had been the best thing that happened to her. No matter how it came about.

“My current last name, is a name I recently changed to. My original last name was Byrne. “ She shrugged her shoulders not really wanting to get into the reason she changed to Daradasi, how it was the name of her lineage – the direct lineage that sprouted from –her- blood. Something she was proud, and rarely shared with others.

“The airport.” She trailed. Nodding her head she began to slowly head in that direction, if he was lucky it was probably handed into lost and found, but that was a long shot some people here see a lost wallet and swipe it, never to be seen again by its owner.

“Not that long eh? Do you plan to stay here long?” She inquired as she shook her head, no – she hadn’t been here all her life. Three years almost – so she knew her way around she was sure of it, almost three years being a vampire – now that was a long time. “I’ve been here almost three years. Moved here from Queens, New York.” She shrugged.
