Coparenting (Zodiac)

--The following transcript was a live chat roleplay--
Doc: *Text* “Very well I will deliver it shortly.” And he would. From this point forward, he couldn’t lie to her. Not and expect her to listen to him. He sent Zodiac a quick text as well.

Doc: *Text* “I need to stop by and deliver something. It will not take long. If you are busy I will leave it with your girl at the desk.. but I would rather leave it with you.” Doc grabbed his jacket and headed to his lab. He had left her box of trinkets there. Locked securely away. Once he collected the box, he would head directly to Zodiac’s. He hoped she would be there.

Zodiac: After saying goodbye to Dominique after a beginner's crash course on the subject of powers, Zodiac finally sets herself into some sort of order. No longer in her pajamas, but now dressed, clean, hair and makeup in place. The t-shirt and jeans not her normal attire, but better than magick cow pajamas. Sitting at her desk, she finally checks her phone messages and is surprised to see a message from the Doctor.* 'I am here now if you would like to stop by, but please forgive my appearance.' She typed quickly and hit SEND.

Doc: Doc received the text as he was midway in transit to Zodiac's place. He was was relieved that he would be able to leave the rosary with Zodiac, as he believed that was the safest set of hands, in order to make sure delivery was successful. The last thing he wanted, at this particular point in Minx and his 'relationship' was for it to be fucked up because it got lost. In his perfect scenario, he would deliver it to Minx himself. However that was not going to be conducive to Minx' thoughts. So next best scenario was Zodiac's hands. It was a risk, because by now, Zodiac would know he was the one that killed her, and she might not take kindly to him, for that action. Upon reaching her place, Doc parked, and made his way inside.

Zodiac: She borrowed a sweater from Jennifer and checked over the daytime tally sheets as she waited. As soon as their business had concluded, she would most likely return home to dress properly for the remainder of the evening.

Doc: Upon entering, Doc stopped at the front desk, eyed Jennifer quietly, before finally saying, "I believe Zodiac is expecting me."

Zodiac: The girl looked up and smiled. "Yes she is, Doctor." she pointed to the corner office to the girl's left. "Just knock first"

Doc: Doc nodded, and headed in the direction that Jennifer indicated. At the door he paused and knocked as he had been directed. All the while since having texted Minx, he had been deep in thought. Now it was time to turn over the goods. He had a feeling of trepidation at the thought. It wasn't like he wanted them. But deep down he knew that was his only bargaining chip Minx. And if he turned it over, he was playing his hand, and she could rebuff him. It wasn't a good feeling.

Zodiac: Her fingers a blur on the calculator as she flipped through the receipts. Her thoughts reached out as she heard the knocking. "Come in, Doctor Nilson" her mind called out as she finished the pile. 'What a monster to have for your sire, Mini' she thought to herself. It had been inevitable, she supposed. Dominique could be like like a hound on the hunt when her mind was set. Pull a tiger's tail enough and it will bite and bite hard fit the situation between the paladin and the man entering her office. Her feelings were divided on the subject, but she could not find total fault on one side or the other in this.

Doc: "Hello Zodiac." He said as he opened the door, and advanced into the room. "I promised Dominique I would give her this." He held the trinket box. "It was a given that she would prefer not to see me, after 'recent' certain events." His tone business like, and his words were measured and carefully spoken. "May I have your assurance that she will receive it?"

Zodiac: She extended her hand and took hold of the small box. "Of course you may. She will be returning in the next night or two so I will give it to her then. Please, have a seat and close the door." Zodiac unlocked her desk and opened the drawer and laid the box inside.

Doc: Reluctantly he released his grip on the trinket box. He had given up the his seat of power in this particular instance and he was not fond of the feeling of uncertainty that came with it. Wordless he again did as he was bid, shut the office door and took a seat. He adjusted his tie as he sat. If he was to be castigated, at least he would look presentable as it happened.

Zodiac: She closed and locked the drawer then sat back in her chair. "I must say, I was not surprised when the proof came into focus. I had suspected you. Could have invaded your mind and found out, but you have never given me cause to treat you in such a fashion. Ironically, the girl is a lot like I was when I was alive. She could not resist playing the game and she finally lost"

Doc: Doc inclined his head briefly, as though agreeing with her words. "I could have killed her. Let that be end." He said, not intending to say anything further, but this was Zodiac. If anyone knew him in the city, she probably knew him best. "But had I killed her, it would be like destroying the Mona Lisa. It simply was not something I could do. She was, and still, a work of art, though I fear she will never see it."

Zodiac: An eyebrow raises at the admission. "Please do not think I approve or disapprove here, and either way I will not yell at you for your actions. You are what you are. End of story. And I agree. She is one of a kind."

Doc: He returned her regard calmly and evenly. However his thoughts were a blur with the 'why's' and 'wherefores'. If Zodiac had no intention of 'yelling' or 'admonishing' him, why would he need to shut the door? He had presumed it was because Zodiac had not wished jennifer to privy to the reaming Doc was about to get. "I see." he finally said, while crossing his legs and absently flicking some dirt from his custom made shoe, before finally looking pointedly at her. "You wish to advise me?"

Zodiac: "No, but I could ask what are your intentions now to your new childe." she asked plain and simple. "She was here earlier tonight and we had a long discussion on a few things"

Doc: Doc could lay it bare, give Zodiac the hope.. the wishes he had for his black sheep. However, he had already left far too much open and laid bare. He had given Zodiac his 'ace in the hole' and now she wanted to know his intentions? What did she expect him to do, bare his soul to her? **** that. "I want for her.. what I want for all my daughters." Yes daughters, not childe. The word childe, to him denoted youth and the need for coddling and cosseting. His spawn, needed no such cosseting. "To uphold the masquerade. To be true to themselves, even if it means I have to put them down, time and again."

Zodiac: "Really now. And what if she turns into what you are hoping for, Doctor?" she got more comfortable in her chair as she softly tapped her fingernails together. "What if she embraces this new type of life and moves forward?"

Doc: "Then we will be stronger for it. She is tenacious. Stubborn.. ******* obstinate." Doc sighed. "You know as well as I, that her.." he said it as if it was repugnant to him, "'humanity' and 'caring' for others, will balance us. It is a quality I lack in the extreme."

Zodiac: "And one I have been told I have too much of, so something suggests itself in this to me." she smiled and crossed her legs. "What if I told you that part of our conversation earlier had me making progress on that very subject with her."

Doc: Doc wanted believe her, but Minx was too much like him. "She can lie, Zodiac. She can smile at you.. with those big brown eyes.. and make you want to believe what she says." He gave Zodiac a pessimistic and pragmatic look, "What makes you so certain?"

Zodiac: "Oh, nothing really. Just the fact she was in my work room with me less than an hour ago as I taught her how to learn the powers her path had opened to her..." The look on her face was a rare one now. A look of total smugness. "And taught her how to properly use the first powers she claimed."

Doc: Doc noted her smug look, and as much as he wanted to burst her bubble, he refrained. Doc knew he would never get Minx to see reason by himself alone. And if Zodiac is able to do it, what would he care? "This is excellent news. However," He pressed his lips into a grim line, "do not get cocky with her. She will baulk and you will be back to square one." He decided he would not tell Zodiac that he too had, had a very enlightening conversation with Minx, and the trinket box was his way fo showing good faith.

Zodiac: "Oh, I assure you sir. My attitude is just a minor victory with her. I had to present the idea to her in a way she can relate to. If she continues to come to me and learn-excellent. If not, then she has no one to blame but herself for what happens next. I hope she continues, I really do but I refuse to follow her around and fret over it. I tried that before when she was alive-warning her what might happen and she refused to listen"

Doc: Doc nodded slowly. "Agreed. It is just a waste of energy. Until she ready to see that her 'oh woe is me, i have no ******* heartbeat' is counter productive to .. well ******* everything.. Then why bother?" He paused, "I fear it will be a long road. She has not cut ties with the Paladins I fear."
Some day I'm gonna be happy. I don't know when just now

--The following transcript was a live chat roleplay--

Zodiac: "Actually, that was the tie I used to help her focus finally" she admitted. "She will learn in time all they will do is use her as she grows stronger then kick her to the curb or the realm when they finish with her. She thinks she can be an asset to them now. I did not have the heart to tell her otherwise, but if being this self deluded helps her to grow then so be it. I will use it for all it is worth to help her along." She looked at the Doctor curiously for a moment then pulled her chair closer to the desk. Elbows on top as she leaned closer to the man. "Forgive me for putting this so crudely, dear, but did we do the wild thing at one of those parties and have Mini be the end result? We are talking her like a set of parents debating the future of their daughter or something"

Doc: "Well.. " He shrugs ever so slightly, "She will not listen to her 'father', so it is only right, she seek a motherly persona.. yes?" He smirked "Though you are far from what I would normally consider.. motherly.."

Zodiac: She frowned at his statement, then smirked. "Well, you are not the ideal Mike Brady either, I must say."

Doc: "I should ******* hope not."

Zodiac: She cackled then. She could not help it. "It may surprise you that when I was still among the living one of my deepest desires was children of my own. Plural. Babies who in turn would surround me with grand babies I could spoil rotten. Maybe live long enough to see great grand babies perhaps."

Doc: "I wanted children.. granted.. I rather approve of not having to go through the teenage angst stage.. "

Zodiac: "Yes, I know what you mean." settles back in the chair now. "So, we have a daughter it seems. So odd, but yet all things considered it makes sense in a vampire sort of way I suppose."

Doc: "You realize that we shall have to put on a united front.. She will eventually figure us and try to play us against one another..." He gave her a knowing look..."Every child does at some point in time.."

Zodiac: "I agree. If she comes to that point, when one of us says no she will turn to the other. All I can say is I can warn you of such things when they begin to happen."

Doc: "I will do likewise. But that being the case.. we should be prepared to back each other up even if you and I have opposing thoughts.. and or beliefs on the subject. She will have more ammunition against me.. I would think .. than you"

Zodiac: She nodded. "I would have to agree. She may get different opinions and viewpoints from us both, but if the core concepts are the same she will be forced to follow along."

Doc: Doc nodded. "A unified front is paramount. And.. we should be prepared for her to push at every point."

Zodiac: "And every way required. I am sure you would have no issues with sending her to the Realm again if needed."

Doc: Doc pondered the question as he looked at Zodiac. He was quiet for a long moment. "No I would not have any issues, however, I would prefer not to. I have pushed her enough. I don't want to break her spirit."

Zodiac: Again her eyebrow cocked in surprise. "I see. Apparently I did not know the entire story of the situation before or your perspectives are changing."

Doc: Doc's gaze locked on Zodiac. "Do you remember a few days back when you advised to indulge my predilections in easing my anger?" He stood up suddenly, shoved his hands in his pockets and started to walk around the room. "I did some thinking.. I met up with a friend.. released some frustrations, and did some more thinking." His back was now to Zodiac. "My issues with Minx.. partially mine.. partially hers. Mine in that I chose to believe.." a lengthy pause, "erroneously.. that I did not care." he turned to face Zodiac. His face stone still.

Zodiac: "Curiouser and curiouser" She had never considered that the Doctor might actually care for the girl. From an outsider's view, his actions might seem like a hunter wearing down an inevitable prey till there was nothing left but the kill itself. "You were giving her chances" Zodiac concluded.

Doc: He snorted as though it should be obvious, "Only to show her, she couldn't win." He started pacing again. "Granted.. the desire to win.. pushed things to a point, of no return..." He snarled softly, "Especially when the ******* Ball and Chain butted in.. it was none of her ******* business..." He stopped, turned on his heel and paced the other direction. "However," He counted to ten, "The BnC is no longer an issue. Mindsets have become readjusted.. iterations of reactions are moving toward the center instead of the extreme."

Zodiac: What a strange course of therapy for one to take, she thought silently. However, in a odd way it made perfect sense as well. "I was sorry to hear about you and your wife, Doctor. Only proving a point I made to someone else once before. Eternal was never meant for creatures such as we.

--The following transcript was a live chat roleplay--

Doc: "See... We agree yet again.." His pacing stopped, "I foresee a positive future for us.." He smirked then, "And as for the Ball an Chain.. We're done.. bound or not.. her choice, which I graciously accepted." He smiled.

Zodiac: "We think much alike, I admit. Altho the pair of us approach things from totally different views." she looked up at the man. "So now where does this all go from here?"

Doc: "Well to be blunt.. I am ******* crap with females.. the only reason Cat and I get along.. is well she is just as fucked up as I am.. she actually understands me.. Minx.. she wants me dead. Which I understand.. but she has to get past it. Dwelling on the past only weakens your future. You have to be guiding voice.. she isn't going to listen to me"

Zodiac: "Can any of us say we are not twisted a bit after what has happened to us all?" Zodiac stood up and pulled the sweater about her as if a chill had suddenly found her. "She will discover in time her views will have shifted, even just a few degrees. The goddess only knows mine have, no matter how hard I have tried not to."

Doc: He nodded. "I think I see things more clearly. More Black and white. Maybe thats the loss of 'humanity' due to power.. I don't know. However, I can get very single minded.. to the detriment of other things.. or individuals."

Zodiac: "That is a common change in most I think. It is the ones who stand and act like they were never human to begin with and indulge in violence and pain toward the living that concern me. My grandmother told me 'always keep sight of where you are going, but never forget where you have been'. I have found this to be a truth especially now. You still appear to have some hindsight in you yet, Doctor. Means there is hope for you."

Doc: "Me? I am not the concern here.. Minx is. I could talk until I was blue in the face.. she would still want me dead. I dont ******* care except.. that I know that dwelling on why she wants me dead is the concern.. The why is over and done and cannot be undone. Which .. is why I want.." he stopped, then started over, "Which is why I would ask you to help me.. set her on a forward moving path.. rather a whirlpool of of the past.."

Zodiac: "Say it however you want, you do care." the gypsy refused to back down. "You cared before and now you still do. Is not a horrible thing to admit, I assure you. But yes, I will assist you in this. I was the one who tried to warn her she would end up where she was now if she continued. If one pulls a tiger's tail enough, it will turn and bite. She could not see that then, but she does now. I can only hope between the two of us she has the sense to listen to at least one of us."

Doc: "Whatever you need.. if its in my power.. I will back you up..apart from breaking the Masq.. " His words came out with quiet conviction.

Zodiac: "In this we have no quarrel. You forget, I was protecting the Masq before you were even turned. That has not changed in me despite my more solitary existence."

Doc: "I had not forgotten. But know we are both clear.. and firm in our stances..Nothing wrong with reiterating the rules occasionally"

Zodiac: "Not at all." she smiled again.

Doc: "So we are in agreement." Doc extended his right hand. "May we be successful.."

Zodiac: She took the offered hand and shook it. A sociopath and a witch decide to raise a child. She smirked inwardly at the jest. "So how do you feel we should proceede from here, sir?"

Doc: "Let her come to us.. or you.. in this case.." As he shook and released her hand. "You will have to remind me to be patient."

Zodiac: "I can remind you easily. How patient you actually manage to be is another matter."

Doc: "I am a shadow.. given the right situation.. I can be patient.. wee." he sounded far from thrilled.

Zodiac: "If only everything would work so swift and perfectly. From A, to B, to C and such. Sadly, even as we are, we are far from perfection. Dominique will learn at her own pace, just as you and I and the others did. Granted there are some who have been here far longer than I and still have not made progress, but that is something no one can control. If one was an idiot in life, being turned only made them a stronger, faster idiot and nothing more." She laughed softly. "I must say, you are not exactly the type of man I ever thought I would raise a child with."

Doc: Her last statement, made him laugh. It wasn't a hateful, crude or derisive laugh. It was a genuine laugh. "I cannot say I envisioned this eventuality either."
