Memories (Myk)

Post by Cherry Worthington »

Small eyes stare at a shoe box, as hands reach forward and start shaking it. Hearing rattling a girlish gasp could be heard. "What could it be!" A girl stares at a stuff kitten. "I don't know either! Mr. Mittens! Lets check this out!" Opening the box she looked at a picture of a boy who had to be in his teens, hearing foot steps she shoved the picture back in then Mr. Mittens pushing it back in the hidey hole she found it she shot up then ran out before her father could see her.

Smiling wide she waved. "Hi dad!" Suddenly seeing blackness surround her she tried to focus on her father face but woke up before she could see him. Punching the couch she got up and turned. Staring at her animals, she held out her arms and they moved forward, Hime leaned against her and Bunny cuddled her feet. "I just need to remember! WHY can't I?!" Brushing her hair back she closed her eyes and let out a heavy sigh.

The white-haired man checked his watch again, the toe of his boot tapping the ground outside the bookstore. Normally the store would have been open by now, or, at least they wouldn’t have been shut so early. To the rest of the world it might seem strange for a bookstore to be doing business long into the night, but in this city many businesses were thriving at such late hours. It wasn’t just the bookstores, even pet stores found themselves becoming twenty-four hour establishments. The demand was there and growing, not just on the supernatural side, but within the mortal realm as well. Where Vampires were limited to shopping at night for their debility to sunlight, Humans seemed inhibited because of their job or other social demands.

Seeking a distraction, he turned his attention to the heavens pursuing the diamond brightness of stars beyond the inky clouds. A rain speckled breeze stirred the unrepressed ends of his clothing and hair, but even as his ironed-straight, argent-white tresses teased his cheeks, his pewter eyes were fixed only to the depths of sky. He was captivated, entranced, and his mind travelled vast distances into the past and the future.

After a while it felt as if he was drifting with the wind; his hair in particular seeming acutely drawn. A harsh gust from the east tossed it over his left shoulder and Myk opened his eyes realising the weight of it. He knew he’d been neglecting to trim his hair, but its length surprised him when it poured over his shoulder and down the front of his long, fur-trimmed jacket like heavy cream. It was almost to his waist now, when just two short months ago it fell scarcely below his shoulders. People were mistaking him for a woman more and more frequently – even without the make-up and unisex clothing.

Myk scooped the lengths of his hair back over his shoulder in one smooth motion then checked his watch again. The bookstore was still closed; he grumbled to himself and started walking. His mind hadn’t given his feet any direction, but something had. He found himself upon the doorstep of the Ivory Tower soon enough. He shrugged his shoulders and walked inside. He could have gone straight to his apartment as per usual, but he lounged around by the pool instead. There didn’t seem to be any logic or even any emotion to it. He removed his boots, sat on the edge and sunk his legs into the water. He didn’t care for his fashionably torn tights which drank up the water to his knees as he kicked his legs. He didn’t feel any discomfort, he didn’t really feel anything…

“Apathy is such a *****,” he whispered to himself.

Ruffling her hair she got up and left her home. Popping out her cell phone she sent a text to Myk. :: Hey dude! Whats happening?:: Clicking on send she went for a walk trying to clear her head. While she moved through the town she stopped by a few places and stole a few items from near by buildings. After a while she sat down and tried to remember her dream. It was funny how these dreams happen when she felt alone. Lost in thought she closed her eyes.

Listening to the clicking of feet around her she concentrated then fell asleep again but this time it was darkness and the dream she was trying to remember vanished quickly. Hearing people talk around her she scowled and opened her eyes only to see a cop walking towards her. "Cant I try to remember my dream in peace? Bah!" Getting up the cop moved to the side and she left the area.

Myk watched the water splash and froth to his movements, as if he’d willed the liquid into an angry dance. He didn’t like how still everything was. The sound echoed in the vast, empty room and almost drowned out the sound of his mobile phone. The singular beep and buzz alerted him to the fact that it was just a text message, but then again, hardly anyone would bother to text him. If his phone did make a noise it was usually ringing, and the caller, well… it was normally the same person.

Myk considered ignoring it, but as it was he was bored and looking for some feeling. He took the phone out of his coat pocket, his thumb sliding across the screen to unlock its many wondrous features. A text message from his Hair Twin was waiting for him, his head drifted a little way to the left involuntarily. I wonder what she wants, he thought as he opened the message.
:: Hey dude! What’s happening? ::
His thumbs typed the response: Not much. What are you up to?

It was the polite thing to do – to return her question – that was all he knew to do. Though, ordinarily when people asked they were generally looking for an excuse to vent or ask a favour. Or so Myk had been told, or so he had seen. Personally, he didn’t mind any trouble. If anyone asked him to do something, he just did it. He might make a fuss, ask questions, be a bother, but he’d always do it. He’d do it even if it meant he’d find himself on the wrong end of a curse or… Mind Block.

The memory made him shudder. One hand left his phone to curl a ringlet of hair around his fingers. Oh good, he thought to himself as his pale lips cracked into a smile, I can feel again.
