Jarrett stared at the icon for Skype on his desktop. If he didn't contact his mom now, he'd be in for it later on. As it was, he hadn't had much contact with her. He put his hand on the mouse, moving the cursor over the icon then clicked on it. He watched as it connected into his account and eyed his mom's username.
"3, 2, 1..." he said softly as Noir was bouncing around his chair. Sure enough his mother was requesting to talk to him. He gave her a warm smile even though she was pretty much glaring at him.
"Boy, why haven't you talked to me sooner?" his mother signed.
'Here we go..' Jarrett thought. He brought his hands up, making sure they were in frame. "I'm sorry, mom. I've been busy. You know me and work."
Jeannette frowned, "Yes, I know you and work. But its no excuse for you to move off so far away at such short notice. When are you going to come visit?"
"I don't know. This city has a rather high crime rate, it keeps me pretty busy. I'm sure I can get away around the holidays maybe. Either before or after...sure the holidays will have an increase in crime." Jarrett signed, though his mother just stared blankly at him.
"Don't give me none of that. You get your butt home or I'll just have to come up there." Jeannette replied, she could show so much attitude with her signing. "Where are you living at anyway?"
There wasn't anyway he wanted her to come up here. It was far too dangerous and so many lies and hiding he would have to live with. Something he wasn't already living with already.
"Serenity, a friend. She has allowed me to rent a room at her place. It's rather big. She likes helping people so there are others here. Though I hope to buy an apartment." Jarrett signed to her. Though saving money was slow going on his salary, considering the pay cut he had to take for the job.
"I'm glad you have somewhere to stay. I was afraid you were still living out of a hotel." his mother said, but then she got that look on her face and he knew the game of 20 questions was coming. "So, you got a girlfriend yet?" It was a normal question from a mother. When are you going to settle down? And the sorts.
Jarrett wasn't fully sure how to answer that. "Ah...Sort of. I've had a few dates. Nothing...serious just yet." he replied. "I'm working on it.."
Jeannette studied him a moment. "I'm surprised you even have that with your work habits." she signed. "Well, some of the girls and I are going out. I still need to get ready. I expect you on here more often, boy. It isn't nice making your mother worry so much about her only child."
"Yes mom.." Jarrett replied, it was a good thing she couldn't hear how he said it but only that he said it and signed it as well. His tone was pretty much that of a child being scolded by a parent.
She soon disappear from his online contacts. Jarrett sighed softly and closed the program. His elbows found their way on the desk, his hands covering his face. Going home would be painful. She would want to cook him a proper meal and he wouldn't be able to enjoy it at all.

Jarrett dreaded this Skype meeting. He had told his mom that he wouldn't be able to make it for Thanksgiving therefore he had to promise to talk to her on Skype. When the video popped up, he almost winced at the look he was getting. "I'm sorry, work has been hell.." he lied, he had time but he just couldn't bring himself to go back.
"I at least expected to see you stuffing your face over there. You were always eating prior to moving there.." Jeannette replied.
He gave a small smile, "It's rather hard to sign with one hand busy with food.." he joked, not that his mother was amused. "I hope you at least had a nice Thanksgiving with your friends."
Jeannette nodded, "Please tell me you will at least come home for Christmas."
"I can't make any promises, you know that." Jarrett signed, it pained him as he knew that not seeing him for this long was hurting her. He tried changing the subject, "You said you wanted to meet my girlfriend. A mutual friend of ours is teaching her sign language." Of course he knew Kira's ASL was limited, at least Alexandrea would learn the basics.
"Oh, she certainly doesn't have to go through all that trouble." his mother signed, though she seemed impressed with the effort.
Noir was whining until Jarrett let the dog on his lap, not that was easy considering how much he had grown. "Sit still." Jarrett complained, Noir settled down staring at the screen.
"Glad to see your partner there has grown up to be a fine dog. Obviously you should bring him with you if you come.." Jeannette signed.
"Of course. I think he wants to get out again. I'll talk to you later." Jarrett said, pushing Noir off his lap.
"You take care of yourself. I love you." Jeannette said.
Jarrett nodded, "I will. Love you too mom.." he replied and turned off Skype. He looked over at Noir who was staring back but neither one said anything at all.

July 13th, 2013
Jarrett set up a meeting with Catherine, to explain what was going on and that he'd be away awhile longer. Though on the way there, he swore he was seeing things. People he was sure that were dead. He placed his hand on the side of the building, rubbing his face with the other. He opened his eyes again and looked back, still there. "One trip to the shadow realm and I've gone crazy.." he said, well he had spent a long time there, not as long as others he has heard of but he really felt calm there, unlike here.
He turned around and quickly made his way into the cafe, Noir following closely behind him. Cathy was already there with two things of coffee. He sat down and she pushed one of them to him.
"I know you can't have it but, you like the smell right?" Cathy said, "Glad you are back. With both you and David going MIA, we're so behind on stuff."
Jarrett stared down at the coffee, he put his hands around it, taking in the smell. "I'm not going back to work just yet.." he said, Noir sitting down beside his chair. "I need to go spend time with my mother for awhile."
Cathy nodded, "Understandable.." she said.
Jarrett dipped a finger into the dark liquid, then put it on his tongue. It was about the only way to taste it anymore, unless he imported some coffee gum from Japan. "I'm not sure if I can handle going...been seeing some strange things.." he said, looking around.
"Strange how?" Cathy asked.
"I see dead people.." Jarrett said seriously.
Cathy laughed, "Like the sixth sense.." she said. "Well...isn't there an explanation..?"
Jarrett thought about it, "Well...some of...our kind can see them.." he said, "But I don't remember unlocking it."
"Maybe you did without realizing it." Cathy suggested.
"Maybe. Suppose I should try speaking to them...make sure I'm just not seeing things." Jarrett said, then again he could just be nuts and they would reply anyway. "But anyway...I'm think a couple of weeks..." he added, having no idea how the hell he was going to avoid not eating in front of his mother. He sighed softly, he didn't want to eat it and have to throw it up. He closed his eyes for a moment.
They spent some time talking but after awhile he thought it best to go and start packing, "Thanks for the coffee.." he said and got up. He took it with him, Noir was sniffing around as headed back to the apartment. "Noir...do you see them too?" he asked, he heard animals could see the daed.
Noir tilted his head and barked. Jarrett shrugged and went to his room to pack.

Re: How you turn my world...*Journal*
Time Unknown, from last entry to now
Jarrett returned home as planned, his mother was overjoyed but as time past, it became increasingly harder to hide the fact that he just did not eat. At least he didn't have the sun to worry about. He then went back and forth between New Jersey and Washington D.C. or whereever he was needed.
And as any mother, she knew that her baby was hurting and he just wasn't the same man he was before. It was always funny watching his mom attempt to cuss and show her anger. She knew why.
"It's alright, mom. Just another lying whore. I should be used to ended up with the wrong person. I give up." Jarrett signed to her, "I don't have any reason to return to Harper Rock."
"What about that other blonde. The one who told me you were going under cover?" Jeannette replied with her hands.
That had been the lie that Kira told his mom so she wouldn't worry. "She's a friend. I mean, there are still people I care about there but...staying there is complicated. It's just best I travel to where the FBI needs me for awhile." Jarrett replied, that was the last conversation he had with his mother before he started to travel.
Of course he had the extra headache with the dead. That trip to the shadow realm messed him up in more than one way. Then there was Noir who was sick of traveling. He petted the dog gently as the plane landed. He wasn't in contact with that many people but Kira said she could use some help. She tried to keep him up to date on the **** going on here but he wasn't sure if he really cared.
He was in town long enough to help cripple some rouge vampire so they would disappear from the bounty list. Supposedly a new way of doing things. It was nice to see that things could be changed.
He left soon after again.
The worst part of being away was needing to feed. He blood boost himself or had to talk a blood bank into giving him some bags. He was glad he had bridged to allurist.
Then there was making sure not to act superhuman, or get shot only for it to heal. Things that would be hard to explain.

Re: How you turn my world...*Journal*
Jarrett had left the city some time ago. He returned to the FBI, stating he needed a change in assignment. He was happier with normal crimes, busting the bad guys. Just normal, run of the mill bad guys, even the worst of the serial killers. No vampires, just plain old humans. It was the change of pace he needed. He was so over being in that city. He cursed the day he was assigned to the missing persons cases. His only fear now was the what if, if he was killed, he would be stuck in the shadow realm forever as a wraith. That sounded like hell.
He was able to visit his mom more often, but that meant hiding the fact that he couldn’t eat. She loved cooking for him, saying he didn’t eat enough. During his short visits, he would say he just wasn’t hungry. Now, he forced himself to eat, then excuse himself so he could throw it all up again. This made the visits awful but he did it, for his mom.
“My sweet boy, are okay?” his mom asked using her hands, he leaned down as she wanted to touch his face.
“I’m fine mom. You worry too much.” Jarrett replied with a smile, replying with his own hands. He wondered if someone like her were to become a vampire, if they would be able to hear again. Not that he wished being a vampire on her however, he knew he hated it.
Jarrett was called into the office one day by his boss. “You wanted to see me, sir?” he asked.
“Please have a seat.” he replied.
Jarrett sat down, wondering what this was all about.
“In all the time you were in Harper Rock, not once did you say anything about...strange things..” he said, “I can’t even believe it now, even with it being all over the news.”
Jarrett eyebrows went forward. “Sir? What do you mean?” he asked.
The man stared at him for a moment. “Agent Ajax...are you one of them? I see you out in the sun but you seem tired. You used to drink a ton of coffee and now...people have noticed you act like you are taking a sip but the level never changes.” he said.
Jarrett felt numb. “One of who..?”
“Vampires!” he yelled, he turned his computer screen towards him. Reports about vampires in Harper Rock. “That city is crawling with them and other weird ****.” he said, he pulled out his gun and pointed it at Jarrett’s chest. “If I shoot you right now, what would happen!?”
Jarrett leaned back in the seat. He was gone for so long and this happens? The whole world knows? When did this happen? He sighed softly, licking his dry lips before speaking. “I would probably live through a gunshot to the heart..” he said. “Charles, it is still me. Nothing about me has changed. I am not a monster. The people I help put away are.” his dark eyes stared into his.
Charles stared at him, his hand shaking. He slowly put down his gun. “Your reports back about the missing persons...you lied on them then?” he asked.
“Let me explain..” Jarrett said, leaning forward. “Shortly after I got there. I found a young woman whose leg was missing. It was cut off. I tried to help her..she ended up being a vampire. She was low on blood and I was rather a handy bag of blood but she pretty much killed me by draining most of my blood. She turned me into one to save me..”
He took a breath in. “I...I wish I had died that night...honestly.” he said, “I can’t eat or drink. I had to gain powers in order to be in the sun again. During that time, any humans who found out about vampires had to be silenced. A lot of the missing persons are because they are either dead or they became a vampire and couldn’t go back to their old lives.” he said. “So yes, I had to cover **** up. I hated it but who the hell was going to believe the truth? If I outed vampires, I would have been killed over and over again.” he said. He lowered his gaze, “I truly wish I had never step foot in that town for all those reasons plus having my heart ripped out.”
Charles stared at him for some time, he slowly sank back into his chair. “Guessing that last part was about that girl..” he said, Jarrett nodded indifferently.
“I don’t know what to think about of this. This is something that anyone else shouldn’t know. Might be a witch hunt on our hands..” Charles said, “Wait, does your mother..?”
“No, she doesn’t and it needs to stay that way.” Jarrett replied, “I don’t know how she would react or if she would understand. I may be her only son but what if she thinks I’m some kind of monster. She may have a heart attack...and then I would really have nothing to live for..”
“Not that I can even kill myself..” Jarrett muttered.
“Maybe you need to see the FBI therapist..?” Charles asked.
“And say what? Hey I’m a vampire and I’m really depressed. That’s a sure way of getting my badge taken away..” Jarrett replied.
“Right…” Charles said, he sighed. “I guess keep on working...I don’t know how the governments of the worlds are going to react to this whole vampire thing.”
Jarrett got up, he wasn’t sure either but the world didn’t really stand a chance against vampires. Of course if vampires stopped fighting themselves long enough to join forces, if it came to that. He left the office to get back to work, it was the only way to keep his mind off things he rather forget.
Jarrett stared at the series of texts. “A cure?” he said softly. Supposedly someone had a cure for being a vampire but the fight for it ended up with it being stolen. Who had it? Vampires or humans? He didn’t care, he needed to find out more. If there was a chance of being free from this curse, he would take it without a second thought. He let his boss know what he was up to and took his leave, booking the first flight back to the city he hated.
